Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses are also required: 1) CRNA Medication Administration Certificate - https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F 2) NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification - https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0 Additional Required Qualifications: Recent Emergency Department experience within the past two (2) years OR ICU/CCU experience within the past two (2) years OR A minimum of three (3) years’ experience (approx. 6000 hours) in Medical, Surgical, or Labor and Delivery units within the past five (5) years. Excellent assessment, organization and documentation skills required. Strong interpersonal communication, stress management and conflict management skills. Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to identify own learning needs, seek guidance in professional practice when deficits occur and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment. Preferred Qualifications: Urban Emergency Department experience. ED charge nurse experience preferred. Triage experience preferred. One (1) or more of the following active certifications: ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, ENA Emergency Certificate, NRP, ITLS. ACCN completion. ENPEP completion. Experience and ability to work with cardiac monitors preferred. Dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation of ECG’s preferred.

The Registered Nurse performs patient assessments, implements prescribed treatments, and administers medications within an emergency setting. They act as a coordinator and advocate for patients while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care.

Requires a Registered Nurse program graduate with active CRNA registration and Basic Life Support certification. Candidates must have recent experience in Emergency, ICU/CCU, or significant experience in Medical, Surgical, or Labor and Delivery units.
