General Information Majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles all lie in the picturesque Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). Located on Vancouver Island, the CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 80,000 within its 4 distinct municipalities and 9 electoral areas. Just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities. The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for a casual ECE Instructor or ECE Assistant at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre Childcare Facility, within the South Cowichan Recreation Division of the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Child Care Coordinator, the ECE Instructor works with the Coordinator to develop and implement the Preschool or Group Care Programs including adhering to licensing policies and guidelines, and the ECE Assistant works with the ECE Instructor to develop and implement the Preschool or Group Care programs, including adhering to licensing policies and guidelines. Qualifications Both positions: Child Care Licensing Approved First Aid Course Licensing requirements include: must be 19 years of age, two (2) letters of reference, criminal record check Class 4 Driver’s License an asset ECE Instructor: Completion of a basic or post-basic Early Childhood Education program at a recognized training institution Experience working in a licensed child care program ECE Certificate to practice in BC ECE Assistant: Minimum Secondary School graduation and an Assistant Certificate from the Early Childhood Education Registry Program. Experience working in a Licensed Child Care setting. Early Childhood Education license to practice would be an asset. Full job descriptions with all required qualifications: ECE Instructor, ECE Assistant I Hours of Work Casual hours of work are set during hours of operation which are typically Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. ‑ 6:00 p.m. Hours of work are based on operational need and may vary to accommodate facility events. Salary Wage rate in 2 steps as per the Non-Union Staff Wage Scale (2025 rates), plus an additional 17.2% pay in lieu of vacation, benefits and stat holidays. ECE Instructor: $29.54 - $30.80 per hour ECE Assistant:$24.66 - $25.94 per hour Application Instructions Please submit a resume and cover letter by 4:30 p.m. on the closing date indicated above.
