Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Applicant Attorney to represent injured plaintiffs in workers' compensation and personal injury matters. The successful candidate will manage a workers' comp-heavy caseload, focusing on workplace injuries. This role requires strong advocacy, client counseling, and the ability to work collaboratively with experts and medical providers to secure maximum compensation for clients. Key Responsibilities Manage a full caseload of workers' compensation matters, including catastrophic injury claims (head/brain, spinal/back injuries, etc). Conduct client intake and initial case evaluation; develop case strategy and timeline for each matter. Draft pleadings, complaints, motions, discovery requests and responses, settlement demands, and trial briefs. Take and defend depositions; prepare witnesses and coordinate with expert witnesses (medical, vocational, economic). Negotiate settlements with defense counsel and insurance representatives while protecting client interests; recommend settlement strategy to clients. Represent clients at mediations, administrative hearings, arbitration, and trials in state and/or federal court as required. Manage case budgets, timelines, and document retention; maintain organized and accurate case files and dockets. Perform legal research and analysis to support case theories, motions, and trial presentations. Communicate regularly with clients, keep them informed of case developments, and provide compassionate, clear counsel regarding medical and legal options. Work collaboratively with colleagues, paralegals, and staff; mentor junior attorneys and participate in practice development and community outreach when appropriate. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar admission in California. Minimum of 2 years of experience in workers' compensation matters; candidates with disability experience preferred. Proven trial and deposition experience; familiarity with administrative hearings and mediation advocacy. Demonstrated experience handling catastrophic injury cases, including head/brain injuries and significant spinal/back injuries. Strong drafting, legal research, and courtroom presentation skills. Excellent client counseling, negotiation, and case management abilities; comfortable working under deadlines and managing multiple matters. Ability to work with medical experts and understand medical records and terminology related to catastrophic injuries. Professionalism, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Comfortable with case management software and common office technology; reliable transportation and willingness to travel to courts and medical appointments as needed.
