Position Details Position Information Position Title Part-Time Academic (ARCH 5115: Post-Colonial Culture, Architecture, and Urbanism) - Fall 2026 Posting Number PTAP3442P Department/Unit Architecture Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The School of Architecture at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Part-Time Academic Instructor position in the Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) degree program. The M.Arch. is a professional two-year graduate Architecture degree. Students complete a Pre-Professional Bachelor degree before M.Arch. enrolment. The Instructor will teach a first-year 3-credit seminar in architectural humanities. Graduate seminars are topics-based and can be developed in the instructor’s research and/or practice area-of-expertise. Graduate humanities courses consist of up to approximately eighteen students, and meet one time each week for 3 hours. The Fall Term is an 14-week term. Graduate humanities courses may be taught remotely. In-person is preferred. The course investigates post-colonial culture and politics of knowledge, raising questions of social engagement and political economy in architecture and urbanism. Topics include power and control in the colonial city; orientalism and the construction of race; relations between global forces and the locale; infrastructures as contested spaces; humanitarianism and neoliberal urbanism. FORMAT : Seminar Qualifications/Requirements Of Position Education and Experience M.Arch or equivalent Master’s degree Prior instruction of graduate architecture humanities course, or similar prior college or university-level teaching experience. PhD or equivalent in Architecture History or related field preferred prior to appointment; all but dissertation ( ABD ) may also be considered. Professional Competencies Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and facilitate student learning. Ability to work cooperatively with diverse faculty and student populations. Preferred Qualifications Excellent record of scholarly, creative, or other professional accomplishment in relevant field.
