NOTE: Hybrid work model, 4 days per week in Toronto, Ontario office RATE: $90 to $100/hr TYPE: Contract, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, 6 month contract CORE SKILLS: Python, SQL, Oracle, PL/SQL, stored procedures, Snowflake, C# INDUSTRY: Capital Markets DESCRIPTION We are seeking a Senior Python Application Developer with strong SQL, Oracle, and Snowflake experience to join the Risk Division of a major investment management organization. The successful candidate will enhance, refactor, test, and support existing applications as database dependencies transition from legacy Oracle environments to Snowflake and Azure Cloud. The work will include identifying Oracle database interactions within application code, updating database connectivity and data access logic, converting Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, remediating stored procedure dependencies, and validating application behaviour following migration. This is a hands on application development and modernization role requiring strong Python coding skills and extensive experience integrating applications with databases. The primary focus is coding, database querying, application repointing, and production support rather than data engineering or data modelling. RESPONSIBILITIES • Enhance, refactor, test, and support existing Python applications used by Capital Markets Risk and other Risk teams • Analyze application code to identify Oracle database calls, embedded SQL, stored procedure dependencies, and data access logic • Update Python application components as database integrations transition from Oracle to Snowflake • Write clean, maintainable, modular, and testable Python code for business critical applications • Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL queries used by applications, scheduled processes, and reporting integrations • Update database connection logic, application configurations, queries, and data access components • Convert, rewrite, or replace Oracle SQL and PL/SQL logic to support Snowflake based application workflows • Review and remediate dependencies on Oracle stored procedures • Read and update selected C# components that interact with Oracle databases, queries, and stored procedures • Troubleshoot application defects, database connectivity issues, SQL errors, performance problems, and production incidents • Create and execute unit, integration, regression, reconciliation, and data validation tests • Validate application results following migration to ensure data accuracy and continuity of business critical processes • Support Power BI reporting migrations from Oracle data sources to Snowflake where required • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, migration planning, release activities, and production readiness reviews • Document application changes, database interfaces, testing results, known issues, and operational procedures • Collaborate with developers, Technology teams, risk professionals, and technical stakeholders throughout the modernization lifecycle REQUIREMENTS • 5 or more years of professional software or application development experience • Strong hands on Python development experience, including enhancing, testing, debugging, and supporting production applications • Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable Python code • Advanced SQL skills with experience writing, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex application queries • Strong experience integrating Python applications with relational databases • Experience maintaining application modules, database connectivity components, and data access layers • Strong Oracle experience, including Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, and database driven applications • Experience analyzing, modifying, converting, or replacing stored procedure logic • Experience with Snowflake application connectivity and SQL development, or experience with another modern cloud database platform • Experience supporting a database migration, application modernization, or application repointing initiative • Experience debugging production applications and resolving database integration issues • Experience with application testing, regression testing, reconciliation, or data validation • Ability to read, understand, and update C# application code • Experience with source control, code reviews, and collaborative development practices • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience NICE TO HAVE • Experience modernizing Python applications from Oracle to Snowflake • Experience converting Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, or stored procedures for Snowflake • Experience supporting scheduled Python applications, calculation processes, or internal business tools • Azure Cloud or Power BI migration experience • Julia programming experience • Experience with Capital Markets, risk management, investment management, or financial services applications NOTE: As part of our hiring process, we use AI‑based systems to support initial applicant screening.
