As a Senior Accounting Technician, Privately Held Business Group your responsibilities will include: Collaborating with colleagues to provide exceptional service to clients under varying reporting frameworks across different industries and sectors Planning, preparing and executing financial statement reviews and compilations, including budget and resource requirements Completing monthly and annual bookkeeping for clients (preparation and advisory) and assisting with payroll and HST calculations Preparing various types of tax returns and responding to CRA requests for information Supervising, coaching and providing timely feedback to junior engagement team members Contributing to the building of our reputation as the preferred business advisors in key sectors of our growing practice Preparing personal and corporate tax returns, partnership returns, trust returns and GST returns Performing reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts including: bank accounts, credit cards, lines of credit, loans, accounts payable, accounts receivable, capital assets and depreciation Assisting a broad range of privately held business clients with day to day accounting queries We are a high-performing team that supports each other; as a part of our team there will be additional ad-hoc duties or assignments as required Doane Grant Thornton If you’re a bit like us, you’re driven to connect with how others are feeling and thinking. Here's a few more boxes we’re also hoping you can tick: Completed post-secondary degree/diploma or equivalent professional experience 3-5 years of public practice accounting and/or bookkeeping experience for small to medium sized owner-managed businesses Strong technical expertise in accounting Experienced in tax return preparation Strong focus on exceptional client service and relationships Strong planning and time management skills Proven problem solver with solid analytical skills and attention to detail Ability to develop and present new ideas and conceptualize new approaches and solutions Ability to successfully work independently and as part of a team Experience mentoring and coaching junior team members considered an asset Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficient with MS Office suite and Accounting software applications (CaseWare, TaxPrep, Sage, QuickBooks), with ability to quickly grasp new technology tools At Doane Grant Thornton we’re focused on making a difference in the lives of our clients, our colleagues and our communities. Our salary ranges are reviewed annually, and where you land within the range depends on a mix of factors—your background, your skills, and how your contributions align with internal equity. To help start the conversation, the current salary range for this role is $65,000–$78,000 in Kelowna. If the role is available in other locations, the range may differ to reflect local market factors. Our special culture shines through when we have the opportunity to connect in person.
