The location in Skookumchuck, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Superintendent, Power & Recovery. This job is full-time permanent. Responsible for the Power and Recovery operation and to partner in the leadership of the department. Engaging in all areas of the department to develop and achieve department and organizational objectives with respect to safety, environmental, legislative requirements, financial, process efficiency, quality, reliability and personnel and employee relations. Key Responsibilities Ensures all safety standards are met, investigate and report on all accidents and incidents; establish preventative measures are implemented and communicated. Ensures operating standards, instruction manuals and other operational guidance to ensure efficient operation are communicated to the department. Maintains quality of work and service to support efficient and responsible management of the department in support of mill operations. Provide, monitor and maintain all operating employees receive the proper safety indoctrination and training. Develops and implements safety initiatives that support and complement Mill safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Communicates to Power & Recovery Manager and applicable departments of potential major production, environmental and quality problems, take immediate corrective action, and recommend solutions. Develops and implements systems to improve productivity and reliability with emphasis on the delivery of white (green) liquor to the digester and the efficient operation of the power boiler. Effectively communicates the rational for trials to operating personnel and ensure operational aspects are well coordinated. Manages and maintains the supply of raw materials for the area. Assists in the preparation of operations budgets and ensure variances in area are explained with appropriate corrective action taken as required. Ensures maximum performance of the area by effectively using and improving maintenance systems and implementing procedures to optimize production and minimize cost while meeting quality standards. Informs the Power & Recovery Manager of pertinent operating, equipment and personnel problems within the department. Responsible for the coordination and organization of maintenance work in the department. Leads and coaches to ensure effectiveness of MBOS and that departmental KPI’s are met. Directs the efficient operation of the Power & Recovery department and all Mill Pressure Vessels. Participates in the development of and administer the Power & Recovery operating budgets, be aware of departmental costs and take steps to control them through direction to Area Superintendents/Supervisors. Maximizes Power Generation to produce power sales for the Mill’s Energy Division where applicable. Manages responsibility for control of internal costs of consumables and labour related expenses. Establishes and maintains extensive partnerships and develops a positive working environment with the team and ensures the team members are empowered, encouraged, and rewarded for their contributions and performance. Mentors and guides the team. Establishes and clearly defines responsibility for staff on the team and ensures the ongoing management and support of staff and effective employee performance. Attracts and retains people with key skills with the focus on proficiency training and career development. Qualifications First Class Power Engineer Certificate is preferred Valid Second Class Power Engineer Certificate; working towards First Class Power Engineer Certificate Five to ten (5-10) years experience with high-pressure boilers and related equipment, pulp mill experience preferred Proven applied knowledge of applicable rules, acts and regulations Demonstrated leadership skills and experience and/or training Effective communication and interpersonal skills Proven technical, project management and strategic skills Combination of equivalent experience and education Salary 120,000-150,000 Domtar is firmly committed to placing greater emphasis on the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion to empower all employees to reach their full potential.
