To learn more about the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, visit: https://www.drake.edu/sjmc Job Summary: The Adjunct Instructor for Electronic Field Production (JMC 100) teaches an introductory, hands-on video production course that is foundational to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication curriculum. This position is designed to provide students with a rigorous grounding in single-camera field production and editing while modeling the professional discipline, technique, and creativity expected in the digital media industry. The Adjunct Instructor will deliver a mix of lecture, discussion, and lab instruction, guiding students through the writing, shooting, and editing of original video stories for web and legacy media platforms, and preparing them for the language, tools, and techniques assumed in subsequent JMC coursework. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in journalism, mass communication, broadcast production, film, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). • Professional or teaching experience in video field production, including camera operation, lighting, audio, and non-linear editing. • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable professional editing software. • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. • Ability to manage classroom and lab logistics, including equipment check-out and troubleshooting. Preferred Qualifications: • Prior college or university teaching experience in journalism, communication, or media production. • Professional experience producing content for a variety of platforms. • Familiarity with visual storytelling, branded content, and digital media law as applied to journalism and production. • Experience mentoring or advising undergraduate students in media-related career paths.
