Part-time Dual Credit Professor - Basic Plumbing COMPETITION NO. Position Information: The Dual Credit program at Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to increase secondary student engagement, confidence and success in a college course to teach TFBP 1303 Basic Plumbing. Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules Monday through Friday during regular high school hours. The majority of courses are delivered as two weekly 75-minute classes in alignment with the high school timetable and periods. Part-time recruitment is ongoing and is dependent on when courses are being taught and the need for faculty to teach. Course assignments are based on scheduling and instructional needs. Academic starting wages are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience. Upon hire, the incumbent will receive a pay calculation to determine their ‘step’ placement within the pay range. Part-time professors teaching a dual credit course will be paid on the applicable wage grid, which currently ranges from $72.56 through $128.86 per teaching contact hour. Professors in this program may teach a variety of delivery models, which could involve teaching at a partner high school located in the community, or in some cases, on the college campuses. For more information about Dual Credit programming, please visit our website: https://durhamcollege.ca/academic-faculties/faculty-of-liberal-studies/services/scwi The responsibilities of Durham College Part-Time Professors include, but are not limited to: Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles; Utilizing principles of pedagogy and universal learning design to actively engage students in the learning process; Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses; Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning; Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant; Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications: Mechanical Techniques – Plumbing Certificate or Provincially Certified Plumber (306A). Plumber (306A) Certificate of Apprentice is considered an asset. Plumber (306A) Red Seal is considered an asset. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset. Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades. Proven track record of life-long learning. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders. Understanding of the Ontario college system. Must be able to provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) upon hire. Candidates must hold a Mechanical Techniques – Plumbing Certificate or be a Provincially Certified Plumber (306A). A minimum of five years of recent, relevant work experience is required, along with an understanding of the Ontario college system.
