Salary range: The full pay range for this role is CAD $29.00 to $48.00 per hour, and the good faith estimated starting pay for this position upon hire is CAD $30.00 to $40.00 per hour. We generally base our salary decisions on factors including but not limited to, relevant work and leadership experience, education, demonstrated performance, internal equity, and in some cases, geographic location. Scope of Job: We are seeking dedicated and talented individuals for roles ranging from Experienced Technician 2 to senior Technician 4 to perform maintenance, repair, and operational activities on utility-scale renewable energy assets, including wind turbines, Photovoltaic (PV) power systems, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Candidates will be placed at the level commensurate with their experience, qualifications, and successful completion of internal competency standards. Summary: This position, under specific direction from the site manager or his/her designee, performs unsupervised field maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on one or more types of renewable energy generators. The scope includes full system installation, commissioning, maintenance, system performance evaluation and troubleshooting of power and energy systems. The Technician 3 may lead teams on routine tasks. The Technician 3 is expected to have knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in a renewable energy asset. Technician 3 demonstrates proficiency in using advanced diagnostic tools, understanding of system software, and familiarity with the latest industry standards. Required Training: Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend a mandatory three (3) week training and certification course at the start of their employment. The exact duration will be determined based on experience and qualifications. The training is in Albert Lea, MN, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided. This position is on-site in Lucknow, Ontario. Responsibilities The level of autonomy, technical complexity, and leadership responsibility distinctly separates the three technician roles. Role Primary Focus On-the-Job Autonomy & Leadership Technician 2 (Experienced)Performs preventative maintenance independently and conducts routine troubleshooting, repairs, and minor upgrades.Responsible for independent preventative maintenance. Participates in the 24-hour " On Call" rotation. Technician 3 (Senior) Performs unsupervised routine and corrective maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and leads teams on routine tasks. Unsupervised execution of all corrective/preventative maintenance. May train and oversee Techs 1 & 2. Technician 4 (Lead/Advanced) Independently performs advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, recommissioning, and repair of utility-scale solar, energy storage, and high-voltage systems. Provides technical leadership and training for Technician Levels 1-3, leads site safety initiatives, supports engineering improvements, Participates in the 24-hour "On Call" rotation, and may oversee site personnel and contractors. Shared Responsibilities (Applicable to All Levels) :All technicians share a commitment to safety, operational excellence, and asset integrity. Adhere to all safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures, and lead site safety assessments. Maintain company property and equipment safely and responsibly. Accurately complete all administrative work, including daily maintenance logs, work orders, time tracking, and warranty/inventory documentation. Attend all required safety and technical training. Maintain the highest level of system integrity and support site budget control by seeking efficiencies. Technician levels 2-5 participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for system monitoring and fault identification. Fiscal Responsibilities: All levels of the organization must be fiscally responsible on the company's behalf. Working Conditions: 100% of time is spent working in the renewable asset field. There is also marginal time spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. This position requires working on platforms or skids, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and the repetitive use of legs, arms, hands, and fingers. The employee will work eight (8) hours a day, forty (40) hours a week, and overtime and night shifts as required. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to: Extreme weather conditions, including cold, heat, rain, wind, etc. High voltage and stored energy Moving mechanical parts and vibration Confined spaces The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Fiscal Responsibilities: Support site budget by ensuring costs is within budget and maintenances and repairs are made in a timely manner by finding efficiencies and working with appropriate subject matter experts to decrease operating loss factor (OLF) and striving for continuous improvement. Qualifications Requirement Type Tech 2 (Experienced) Tech 3 (Senior) Tech 4 (Senior) Experience 1 to 2 years in renewable energy or similar discipline. 2+ years renewable energy experience. 4+ years renewable energy experience. Education High school diploma or equivalent. High school diploma or equivalent. High school diploma or equivalent Knowledge & Skills Basic knowledge of renewable energy systems, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components, safety requirements, and troubleshooting fundamentals. Familiar with schematics, multimeter use, and computer-based tools, with the ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively in a team environment. Deep competency in renewable energy generation theory, electrical safety, arc flash standards, NEC requirements, and industry best practices. Proficiency with advanced diagnostic tools, testing equipment, technical documentation, and renewable energy asset diagnostics, with demonstrated ability to mentor and train junior technicians. Advanced knowledge of renewable energy systems, including solar PV, energy storage, electrical safety standards, NEC requirements, and industry best practices. Skilled in diagnostics, technical documentation, testing equipment, and maintenance systems, with the ability to mentor technicians, collaborate across teams, and support safe, compliant operations. Certifications Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards. Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards and have competency in system software and industry standards. Successful completion of the Senior Renewable Energy Technician Qualification Standard, successful completion of the Technician 2 Standard, or equivalent external experience is required. Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards and have successful completion of the Technician 4 Qualification Standard is required. Must demonstrate advanced competency in renewable energy systems, system software, diagnostics, and industry standards. Other Must possess a valid driver's license. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions :These conditions are applicable to all Renewable Energy Technician levels. Field Work: Work is primarily conducted 100% in the renewable asset field for Techs 2-4, and may require operation of company vehicles on-site and on public roadways. Work at Height: Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and structures to heights of over 300 feet (91 meters) and work safely at those heights and in confined spaces. Physical Demands: Ability to stand, walk, crouch, and work for extended periods; possess the manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, vision, and hearing necessary to safely perform maintenance activities. Conditions: Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain) and in an electrical-mechanical environment with high voltage/stored energy. Lifting: Ability to regularly lift up to 35 pounds and frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Safety Restriction (Wind only): Due to weight restrictions for fall-arrest equipment, the maximum employee weight must not exceed 285 lbs.
