Support Assistant – Pupil Referral Unit, Tyne Valley Start Date: After October Half Term | Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm Are you passionate about education and looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who need it most? Education World is seeking an enthusiastic, resilient, and compassionate Support Assistant to join a dedicated Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) team in the Tyne Valley. This is a fantastic full-time opportunity to work with students who require additional support due to social, emotional, and mental health needs, behavioural challenges, or other barriers to learning. If you're looking to build valuable experience in specialist education while making a real impact, this role is for you. Key Responsibilities: Support teaching staff in delivering engaging and effective lessons tailored to individual student needs Provide 1:1 or small group support to students who require additional assistance Support students with SEN, SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs Assist with classroom and behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation techniques Supervise students throughout the school day, ensuring their safety and wellbeing Help create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment Build positive, trusting relationships with students and encourage their engagement in education Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to meet student needs Requirements: A genuine passion for working with young people and supporting their education Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dedicated PRU team Resilience, patience, and a calm approach to managing challenging behaviour Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable Experience with SEMH or behavioural needs is highly desirable A Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject is desirable A current enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one) Why Work with Education World?
