Job Description Concrete Lab/Field Technician based in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, supporting construction materials testing activities across laboratory and field environments. The role is responsible for collecting concrete samples, conducting material property testing, documenting results, and supporting compliance with applicable construction quality requirements. This position involves regular attendance at active construction sites and laboratory facilities throughout project delivery. Responsibilities include concrete sampling, laboratory testing, field verification activities, technical documentation, equipment maintenance, and adherence to established safety procedures. Work is performed in varying weather conditions and requires coordination with construction personnel and project stakeholders. The ideal candidate possesses a background in civil engineering technology or a related discipline, exposure to construction materials testing, strong technical reporting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining quality assurance standards. Key Responsibilities Perform construction materials testing on concrete mixes, including slump, air content, temperature, and density evaluations. Conduct laboratory testing of concrete cylinders through compression testing to verify strength characteristics and document results. Complete field investigation activities by visiting construction sites to collect representative concrete samples. Prepare and maintain accurate technical reporting records of testing procedures, observations, and test results. Support quality assurance processes by verifying compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and regulatory requirements. Perform laboratory operations duties, including operation, calibration awareness, cleaning, and maintenance of testing equipment. Execute construction inspection support activities while working safely in changing environmental and weather conditions. Follow established health and safety compliance procedures and participate in additional testing and project-related assignments as required. Qualifications Required Diploma or education in Civil Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline. Ability to perform concrete testing procedures, including slump, air content, temperature, density, and compressive strength testing. Familiarity with applicable industry codes, specifications, and testing requirements. Strong communication skills for stakeholder coordination and technical documentation. Demonstrated time management, organizational, and recordkeeping abilities. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in reporting test data. Ability to work independently and within a project team environment. Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence with access to a personal vehicle and an acceptable driving record. Physical capability to lift, transport, and operate testing equipment. Commitment to established safety procedures and fieldwork requirements. Up to 3 years of experience in construction materials testing, laboratory testing, or related civil engineering field activities. Assets Education in Concrete Technology. Previous experience performing concrete laboratory or field testing. CCIL (Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories) certification. Exposure to construction quality control programs. Experience working on infrastructure, transportation, municipal, or building construction projects. Familiarity with concrete materials performance evaluation and testing documentation processes.
