Software Engineer II (Android Automotive / Embedded Systems) Location: Ottawa, ON Work Model: Hybrid (Onsite Monday-Thursday, Remote Friday) Employment Type: 1-Year W2 Contract Compensation: $62 - $64/hr + Benefits Overview We are seeking a Software Engineer II with experience in Android Automotive, AOSP, embedded systems, and modern C++ development to support the development of next-generation vehicle software platforms. This role will focus on building and enhancing Android Automotive infotainment systems, digital cockpit applications, and embedded vehicle software, while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality automotive solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for a software engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working close to hardware, and owning software features throughout the full development lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain software for Android Automotive and embedded vehicle platforms Develop Android platform services, system applications, and framework components using C++, Java, and Kotlin Customize, integrate, and maintain functionality within the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) Develop and troubleshoot Automotive Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) components and Stable AIDL interfaces Support infotainment, digital cockpit, and connected vehicle software initiatives Perform root cause analysis and resolve software stability, memory, concurrency, and performance issues Contribute to software architecture, system design, integration strategies, and platform enhancements Implement automated testing, code reviews, and software quality best practices Partner with architects, developers, testers, and product teams across multiple release cycles Support software deployment, production releases, and ongoing post-launch support Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field. 4+ years of IT experience, including 3+ years of software development experience. Strong experience with C++17 or later. Solid understanding of: Memory management Object-oriented programming Multithreading and concurrency Thread synchronization Performance optimization and debugging Experience with Android Automotive OS, AOSP, or Android platform architecture. Experience developing or integrating software within AOSP. Experience with Automotive HAL development, integration, or troubleshooting. Experience working with Stable AIDL HALs and Android 11+ platform standards. Familiarity with Android build systems including Android.bp (Soong) and Android.mk. Experience developing software for embedded automotive, infotainment, digital cockpit, or vehicle systems. Preferred Qualifications Java and Kotlin development experience Android framework, platform services, and application development experience Experience with: Binder IPC AIDL Android Services Android Framework Integrations Experience with Infotainment, Digital Cockpit, or Connected Vehicle systems Knowledge of: CAN ASPICE FMEA Experience with: QNX Automotive Grade Linux (AGL) Embedded Linux Platforms Experience using SonarQube, Klocwork, Valgrind, Mockito, MockK, or similar tools #INDOEM
