Employment Opportunity Job title: Before and After-School Monitor Reporting to: Student Services ESK Hours: Shift 1 - 7:45 am to 2:45 pm (Flex Lunch) Shift 2 - 9:30 am to 4:30pm (Flex Lunch) EES Hours: Shift 1 - 7:45 am to 2:45 pm (10:15 to 11:15 Lunch) Shift 2 - 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (12:30 to 1:30 Lunch) Locations: Eskasoni Elementary School ESK Immersion School Employment status: Term employment until June 30, 2027 Salary: Job Summary: The before and afterschool monitors support the day-to-day delivery of the program by creating a safe, positive and engaging environment for children. Staff will work as a team to plan activities that support students' well-being and help the program run smoothly. Responsibilities: Provide active supervision of children during all activities and transitions; Plan, organize and implement age appropriate program activities, games, arts & crafts and culturally-relevant activities; Provide a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for children and youth; Supervise children and ensure safety at all times; Demonstrate fair judgment and respond appropriately to student interactions and conflicts that may arise; Assist with program set-up, take-down and general housekeeping duties; Maintain a safe,clean and organized space; Delivery of breakfast program and assist with lunch program; Liaise with team lead for procurement of supplies/equipment for program activities; Lead by example and form positive relationships with students and program staff; Ensure the safety of students in the program by following proper safeguarding procedures; Document and report incidents to the supervisor; Help with registration, attendance tracking and conduct head counts regularly; Other duties as assigned. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, post secondary education, an asset Must have experience working with children and youth (for ex: school setting/daycare/summer camp/childcare) Ability to manage groups of children with diverse needs and interests Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English and Mi'kmaq. First Aid and WHMIS required or willingness to obtain upon hire Food handling certificate or willingness to obtain upon hire Ability to work and communicate effectively with students, school staff, and parents. Ability to maintain confidentiality of program participants, parents/guardians and school staff Please note that successful candidates must provide a current satisfactory criminal record with a vulnerable sector check and child abuse registry check prior to commencing employment. Preference will be given to Indigenous people in accordance with the Aboriginal Employment Preferences Policy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
