Employment Opportunity Job Title: School Sport & Recreation Coordinator Reporting to: Student Retention Liaison Hours of work: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (1:00 to 2:00 Lunch) Location: Allison Bernard Memorial High School Eskasoni Middle School Employment status: Term employment until June 30, 2027 Job Summary: The after-school Sport & Recreation Activity Coordinator plans and oversees school-based activity programs, sports, and events for students of various ages and skill levels. This role provides direct supervision to after-school sport & recreation leaders and execution of the daily activities of the program. Responsibilities: Plan and oversee the after-school sport/recreation leaders; Assist and guide staff to ensure program activities are running smoothly; Coordinate and schedule and lead sports intramurals, fitness classes, tournaments and community recreational activities; Coordinate gym scheduling, rentals, equipment maintenance; Plan, organize and implement culturally-relevant school-based recreation, sport, fitness and wellness activities/ games; Assist in developing, monitoring and managing program budgets and resource allocations; Promote events and build relationships with participants, contractors and other community sport recreation organizations; Liaise with school staff, parents/guardians; Assist with coaching school-based sports and chaperoning; Provide a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for participants; Coordinate assembly, maintenance/repair sport, playground and game equipment to ensure safe conditions; Prepare reports on participant attendance, program activities, equipment, and needs; Maintain supplies/equipment for program activities; Lead by example and form positive relationships with students and program monitors. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Minimum Post Secondary diploma or degree, Recreation, Sports Management, Kinesiology related field an asset Must have experience coordinating sports, recreation or cultural events Staff supervision and management experience an asset Strong communication, organization, time management and public speaking skills Fluency in English and Mi'kmaq. First Aid and WHMIS required or willingness to obtain upon hire. Ability to work and communicate effectively with students, school staff, and parents. Ability to maintain confidentiality of program participants, parents/guardians and school staff. Please note that successful candidates must provide a current satisfactory criminal record with a vulnerable sector check, child abuse registry check prior to commencing employment. Preference will be given to Indigenous people in accordance with the Aboriginal Employment Preferences Policy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
