Role Description The DSW (Developmental Services Worker) is a full-time, on-site role based in Whitby, ON, providing direct support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with personal care, daily living activities, and community participation while promoting independence and self-advocacy. The DSW will implement person-centered support plans, document observations, and report any changes in behavior or health status. The role involves collaborating with families, caregivers, and other professionals, maintaining a safe and respectful environment, and following all organizational policies and procedures. The DSW is also expected to participate in team meetings, ongoing training, and contribute to continuous improvement in service delivery. Qualifications Education in Developmental Services Work, Social Services, Community Support, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience providing direct support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in residential, community, or day program settings. Knowledge of person-centered planning, behavior support strategies, and trauma-informed care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust, listen actively, and advocate respectfully. Ability to work effectively in a team environment, follow established procedures, and maintain accurate documentation. Physical ability to assist with transfers, mobility, and personal care, and to respond safely in emergency situations. Basic computer literacy for documentation, communication, and training modules. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record may be considered an asset, depending on program needs. Current First Aid/CPR certification and a clear background check (including vulnerable sector screening) or ability to obtain prior to start date.
