About the Role Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the Senior Accountant is a key member of the Finance team and is accountable for the full cycle monthly process, including the preparation and analysis of more complex month-end and year-end financial statements for Facility Association’s mechanisms. As a Senior Accountant, You Will Perform monthly entries for the closing of the balance sheet, income statement and any additional changes to the financial position for assigned mechanisms. Perform and review annual balance sheet and income statement entries, including year-end disclosures and tables for FA’s mechanisms. Ensure timely processing of monthly journals for provisions and accruals and related worksheets for FA’s mechanisms. Prepare monthly internal controls and upload supporting evidence for evidence gathering. Oversee monthly balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations. Prepare a monthly summary of results and explain variances to prior month and outlook, coordinating with FP&A to provide insight into key drivers and changes. Compare general ledger balances to Member statements by mechanism and follow up on differences. Support external auditors by providing documents, worksheets and explanations for financial year-end and CSAE control audits. Prepare financial statements, coordinate audits with external auditors based on schedule and complete materials for manager review. Recommend improvements to system and process efficiencies. Monitor and support implementation of new accounting requirements and standards. Lead or support special projects each year and work with cross-functional teams to deliver results as required. Communicate financial information in a way that can be understood by a non-financial audience. Seek assistance from other team members and departments when required. About You As Senior Accountant, you bring strong technical accounting capability, sound judgement and the ability to work across multiple mechanisms, processes and stakeholders. Education and Experience Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field. CPA designation. Five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant accounting or finance experience. Property & Casualty insurance experience is considered an asset. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and reporting tools, with an ability to learn new tools. Knowledge of and proficiency with accounting software programs. Skills and Working Style Strong analytical, research, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to adapt to varied duties, processes and methods. Ability to plan and organize several complex activities, adjust plans when priorities change and manage multiple deliverables and deadlines. Clear communication skills, including the ability to interpret semi-complex information and explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. Collaborative approach with regular internal contact across FA departments and external contact with auditors. Sound judgement in determining when difficult matters should be escalated to a supervisor. Attention to accuracy, quality and adherence to organizational standards, policies and detailed instructions.
