Focus Systems is seeking an experienced COBOL Developer for a senior-level contract opportunity with Focus Systems' client in Montreal. If you have extensive experience working with COBOL, DB2, IMS, Endevor, and JCL in Mainframe environments, along with strong problem-solving and communication skills, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the design, development, integration, and continuous improvement of large-scale software solutions. Key Details 📍 Location: Montreal 🏢 Work Mode: Hybrid 📅 Start Date: November 2026 📅 Contract: November 2026 – October 2027 ⏰ Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week Role Overview The COBOL Developer will participate in the design and delivery of software solutions, helping ensure stable, secure, and high-quality products while continuously improving their quality. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of large-scale computer systems, programs, and applications, including their integration and implementation. This role involves analyzing user and partner needs, recommending appropriate technological solutions, and planning and prioritizing work to meet established commitments and objectives. Key Responsibilities • Analyze client and project needs and identify appropriate technological solutions while considering budget commitments and delivery deadlines • Develop implementation strategies and analyze, design, and document programs and applications • Develop and code programs and applications with automated testing • Install and test software packages and implement applications for assigned clients • Ensure the smooth integration of technical solution components • Identify and resolve technical issues that arise during implementation • Analyze user and partner needs and recommend appropriate technological solutions • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate work to meet commitments and established objectives • Contribute to the quality and security of developed solutions Required Skills & Experience • Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role, with senior-level experience sought • Knowledge of COBOL • Knowledge of DB2 • Knowledge of IMS • Knowledge of Endevor • Knowledge of JCL • Good knowledge of Mainframe environments • Ability to identify problems and blockers and propose appropriate workarounds • Strong communication and simplification/explanation skills • Autonomous, organized, rigorous, and able to effectively manage priorities • Curious, willing to challenge oneself, and motivated to learn new things • Ability to bring team members together and gain alignment • Strong team-player mindset Only candidates selected to proceed to the next stage will be contacted and invited to complete their application package.
