Role Overview The Edmonton Employment Resource Centre (EERC) applies integrity and subject matter expertise to talent-matching and employment retention services to support engaged, inclusive workplaces. We assist job-seekers to overcome barriers and occupy meaningful employment roles while building employer capacity for diversity and inclusion. The Career Foundations Consultant will deliver Gateway Association's 10-week Career Foundations Program, supporting individuals with disabilities and other barriers to build the personal foundations needed for future workforce participation, community inclusion, and greater independence. Through individualized coaching, group facilitation, community-based learning, experiential activities, and guided reflection, the Career Foundations Consultant creates meaningful learning experiences that help participants strengthen the foundational skills associated with long-term employment and life success. This role is critical to helping prepare participants with the foundations needed to participate in employment focused services later, allowing them to move into career planning with increased capacity. Working collaboratively with Gateway's Workforce Development team, the Career Foundations Consultant helps participants build the confidence, skills, and readiness required to successfully transition into Workforce Development Services and continue progressing toward their employment goals. Direct Duties: Foundational Capacity Building: Individualized Coaching & Personalized Support (approximately 60%) Group Facilitation (approximately 20%) Community Based Learning (10%) Administrative Tasks (approximately 10%) Direct Duties: Foundational Capacity Building The primary objective of this role is to support participants in developing the following foundational capacities: self-awareness, communication, relationship building, self-advocacy, resilience, community participation, personal accountability, and goal achievement. The Career Foundations Facilitator will accomplish this through: Individualized Coaching & Personalized Support (approximately 60%) Provide weekly one to one coaching that supports participants in achieving their individualized personal growth and learning goals Use strengths based, person centred, and trauma informed coaching approaches to foster confidence, self reflection, problem solving, and accountability Encourage participants to recognize their progress, celebrate achievements, and apply new skills in their daily lives Support participants in preparing for a successful transition into Workforce Development Services Group Facilitation (approximately 20%) Deliver Gateway's 10-week Career Foundations curriculum through interactive workshops, discussions, and experiential learning activities Support with the development of curriculum and learning materials Create an engaging, inclusive, and psychologically safe learning environment where participants feel supported to learn and grow Adapt activities and facilitation approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and accessibility needs Foster peer learning, collaboration, and meaningful group participation Community-Based Learning (approximately 10%) Coordinate community-based learning experiences that promote confidence, belonging, and social connection Encourage participants to explore community resources, build natural supports, and increase community participation Direct Duties: Administrative Tasks (approximately 10%) Track participant engagement and progress throughout the program Maintain accurate documentation, coaching notes, and participant learning portfolios Support participants in developing individualized transition plans for the next stage of their employment journey Collaborate with internal staff to ensure smooth transitions into Workforce Development Services The Commitment Full-time position, working 37.5 hours/week. We believe in work life balance and are committed to keeping the workload in alignment with the true hours worked. At Gateway Association, we strive for roles to be permanent and continuous. However, as a registered charity supported by government funding, private foundations, grants, individual donors, and fundraising efforts, some funding is term-based with variable contract lengths. As a result, certain positions may conclude unless funding is renewed or extended or new funding is obtained. Reports To: Edmonton Employment Resource Centre, Program Manager Supervises: No Direct Reports What You Can Bring to Gateway Education & Experience Experience providing one-to-one coaching or individualized support to people with disabilities, youth, families, or other equity-seeking participants Experience facilitating groups, workshops, or experiential learning activities that build foundational life and employment readiness skills Experience supporting community-based learning, resource navigation, or participant engagement activities Experience developing or adapting curriculum, materials, activities, or facilitation resources is an asset Education or equivalent experience in human services, community development, career development, adult education, or a related field Lived experience related to disability, barriers to employment, community inclusion, or advocacy are valued Knowledge & Skills Strong coaching, communication, and relationship-building skills Confident group facilitation skills and ability to create inclusive, accessible learning environments Ability to adapt activities and materials to participant needs, accessibility considerations, and program learnings Strong documentation, organization, and time-management skills Professional ethics related to confidentiality, boundaries, dignity, informed choice, and participant autonomy Equity & Inclusion Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion Foundational understanding of anti-racism principles, structural oppression, and related terminology (desirable; training provided) Additional Requirements Applicant must primarily reside in and work from Edmonton or greater surrounding area Employment conditional upon satisfactory Police Information Background Check Must have access to personal vehicle for work-related purposes and provide satisfactory evidence of valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and proof of third-party liability insurance. Reasonable accommodations will be explored where possible New hires are subject to a 6-month probationary period Gateway Value Proposition (Compensation & Benefits) Annual Salary Range: $66,000 to $72,000 Health Benefits: 50/50 Employee/Employer Paid Premiums Paid Time Off: Annually 15 vacation days, 9 personal days, and an extended winter break (during this period there will be rotating coverage and an intermittent schedule to ensure community needs are supported. Flexibility and collaboration in scheduling will be required) Schedule: Flexible family-friendly schedule Work Conditions Responsibilities: Administrative computer work, travel for events within Alberta, travel within Edmonton to connect with various community partners, and frequent communication (calls, email, video conferencing, meetings, etc.) with participants and other stakeholders. Hybrid Work Model: Combination of office, home, and community settings. Employees are expected to reside in and work from their primary location of hire. Although this role follows a hybrid model, employees will be required to work some in-office hours to help staff the drop-in resource centre. Staff hired for this role will be required to be in office a minimum of 3 days / week. This role will also require in-office work for in-person meetings and group workshops.
