GFT is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer – Transportation to join our Transportation team. This position may be based anywhere in Ontario. What you’ll be challenged to do: This senior technical role will strengthen GFT’s transportation electrical capabilities and expand our ability to pursue and deliver complex MTO and municipal assignments across Ontario. Working collaboratively with transportation infrastructure leadership and multidisciplinary teams, the successful candidate will provide technical mentorship to a growing electrical engineering team and support strategic client relationships. The ideal candidate brings significant Ontario transportation electrical experience and strong MTO project credentials. Proven expertise is required in roadway illumination, traffic signals, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and related electrical infrastructure. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Lead transportation electrical engineering assignments for MTO and municipal projects, with particular expertise in roadway illumination/lighting, traffic signals, ITS, utility coordination, and electrical power distribution. Serve as a senior technical authority, providing engineering oversight, technical reviews, and QA/QC for drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, estimates, and other project deliverables. Lead and manage transportation projects from planning and preliminary design through detailed design and construction support. Provide authoritative interpretation and application of MTO electrical design requirements and applicable OTM, TAC, IES, OESC/ESA, and municipal standards. Coordinate with multidisciplinary transportation teams, clients, utilities, contractors, and other project stakeholders. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate electrical staff, strengthening the team’s technical capabilities and MTO project experience. Support proposals and strategic pursuits, including technical approaches, project qualifications, scopes, estimates, and client presentations. Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with MTO, municipalities, and other transportation clients while identifying opportunities for continued growth. What you will bring to our firm: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, with an Electrical Engineering degree preferred. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario. Minimum 15 years of progressive engineering experience, including substantial senior-level experience delivering transportation electrical projects in Ontario. Demonstrated recent experience serving in senior or key technical roles on MTO transportation assignments, including roadway illumination/lighting and/or traffic signal design. Current relevant MTO RAQS qualification(s) applicable to roadway lighting, traffic signals, and/or other relevant transportation electrical categories. Demonstrated expertise in roadway illumination/lighting, traffic signals, and transportation electrical systems, with experience delivering complex municipal and/or provincial transportation projects. Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex technical assignments, exercise sound engineering judgment, and provide technical oversight and mentorship. Strong working knowledge of applicable MTO standards and design requirements, Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM), TAC guidelines, IES roadway lighting standards, Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), ESA requirements, and applicable municipal standards. Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, multidisciplinary teams, contractors, agencies, and other stakeholders. What we prefer you bring: Established professional relationships and credibility with MTO and Ontario municipal transportation clients. Experience with multiple transportation project delivery models, including Design-Bid-Build (DBB), Design-Build (DB), Progressive Design-Build (PDB), and/or other alternative delivery models. Construction support and contract administration experience, including review of contractor submissions, RFIs, field issues, and construction-related design changes. Familiarity with industry-standard transportation electrical design and delivery tools, including AGi32 and Bentley/Autodesk environments. Experience with electrical power distribution, utility coordination, arc flash, and short-circuit analysis. PMP certification is considered an asset. Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License. Compensation: The salary range for this position is $145,000.00 - $180,000.00. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
