GFT is seeking a Senior Substation Electrical Designer to join our Practice or CBG Team in Toronto! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto office. What you’ll be challenged to do: The growth and diversification of the Power Business Line is a top initiative, on both a regional and national scale. Our projects involve the design of high voltage infrastructure to support the upgrading and expansion of the electrical grid, design of wind generation sites, Solar (photovoltaic generation) sites, and battery storage facilities. The successful candidate will perform Physical Electrical design on various substation projects from 69kV up to 500kV, renewable & electrical distribution systems. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Develop Substation layout drawings including, plan and elevations, yard layouts, grounding, grounding details, raceway, raceway details, control building layouts, cable lists, and material lists on new and existing substations Perform Physical Electrical Design related studies i.e Busbar, Lighting/illumination, lightning/shielding Perform cable calculations for cable sizing Perform cable duct bank and conduct sizing calculations Review substation Physical Electrical design, electrical design studies related to Physical Electrical Prepare equipment specifications, for substation equipment, components, and construction Review Physical Electrical packages for design & drafting prospectives Experience in Mentoring/Training junior/intermediate drafters/designers Coordinate with other disciplines for interdisciplinary dependencies Compile Physical Electrical packages and arrange submission for internal QA/QC as well as submission to the clients What you will bring to our firm: Diploma in Electrical Technology. Minimum 4 to 8 years of experience in substation Physical Electrical drafting design/drafting. Experience in CAD standards. Ability to understand & follow all standards, including client’s standards, applicable to Physical Electrical packages Commitment to driving strong business performance, continuous improvement, and best practices Experience in AutoCAD & MicroStation Experience in AutoCAD Electric Compensation: The salary range for this role is $76,000 - $94,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
