Job Summary Install, maintain and repair oil and solid fuel heating systems in residential and light commercial settings. Diagnose system faults, perform preventive maintenance and ensure safe, efficient operation in accordance with applicable codes. Number of Positions 1 Main Duties Install oil and solid fuel boilers, furnaces, stoves and associated components according to specifications and manufacturer instructions. Inspect, clean, adjust and repair burners, combustion chambers, flues and chimneys to maintain safe operation and reduce emissions. Diagnose mechanical and combustion problems using testing instruments, and carry out necessary repairs or component replacements. Perform routine preventive maintenance, efficiency tuning and fuel system checks to optimize system performance. Read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals and specifications; complete service reports and job documentation. Advise clients on system operation, maintenance practices and recommended upgrades while ensuring compliance with safety codes. Requirements Secondary school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or trade training in heating, HVAC, or a related mechanical trade, or equivalent practical experience. Demonstrated experience working with oil-fired and solid fuel heating equipment. Ability to operate diagnostic and combustion testing equipment as well as standard hand and power tools. Physical ability to lift and move heavy components, work in confined spaces and at heights, and perform manual tasks. Knowledge of applicable safety practices, building codes and workplace health and safety regulations. Required Skills Mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic ability. Combustion analysis and system tuning skills. Proficiency with hand and power tools and diagnostic instruments. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and equipment manuals. Strong attention to safety, detail and quality workmanship. Effective communication and customer service skills.
