Supports the vision of clinical leadership in the clinical setting and works within an interdisciplinary team to provide clinical expertise in medical / surgical populations Works as a front-line clinical leader and is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the management of clinical patient care in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager (PCM) and Professional Practice Clinician (PPC) Ability to influence the team to achieve safe quality patient care Works with the interdisciplinary team to co-ordinate the daily activity of the unit, staffing strategies, and actively facilitates patient flow Understands and applies the principles of adult learning and supports the growth of the nursing team through guidance, mentoring and the promotion of autonomous nursing practice Recognizes the influence of the nursing environment on retention and recruitment and is able to collaborate with the PCM and PPC to provide a strong orientation process to support new and returning nurses Demonstrates expert professional practice related to clinical practice standards and supports the team with performance of direct patient care activities Demonstrates expert professional communication and interpersonal relationship skills including ability to resolve conflict successfully Assists the Patient Care Manager and Professional Practice Clinician in the development of continuous improvement initiatives for the unit Responsible for ensuring ongoing monitoring of quality indicators and identifying improvement strategies in consultation with the Patient Care Manager and Professional Practice Clinician and med/surg staff to improve delivery of care and services Supports the hospital with on-call responsibilities Completes projects and other duties as assigned The goal is to create a safe, evidenced based clinical practice environment through critical thinking and decision making while demonstrating HHS core values Qualifications Halton Healthcare is seeking individuals who are competent in their chosen profession; patient/customer focused; team players; effective communicators; caring and respectful and are fiscally responsible. Demonstrated knowledge base and experience with the management of cardiac monitoring Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario BScN or BN preferred Current BCLS Certification required; ACLS preferred Coronary Care 1 required Certification in either Cardiology or Critical Care required (or in process of completion) CNA certification in a related practice area an asset Minimum of 3 – 5 years of clinical experience with 2 years demonstrated clinical expertise in a medical/surgical practice required Demonstrated leadership experience, including Charge Nurse or In Charge experience required Contemporary thinker with positive progressive vision Demonstrated commitment to patient and family centered care Ability to work effectively as a group member and to build cooperative effort within the team including ability to resolve conflict successfully, manage stress and champion change Demonstrated excellence in communication, teaching, mentoring, interpersonal and public relations skills Able to work as a team member and support peers, Patient Care Managers, Professional Practice Clinicians, Physicians, and other multidisciplinary professionals Participation in regular professional development Satisfactory employment and attendance record The ideal candidate is strong in patient centered care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to manage execution and to foster teamwork and cooperation. Additional Information Hours: Various rotating 8 and 12 hour shifts, Days & Evenings; 0730-1930, 0730-15300. Hours subject to change based on operational requirements. Required certifications include BCLS and Coronary Care 1, with ACLS and additional cardiology or critical care certifications preferred.
