The Registered Practical Nurse provides direct clinical care and support to patients within the inpatient orthopedic surgical unit. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, implementing health care plans, and reporting changes in patient status to the healthcare team.

As a valued member of the E2 Inpatient Orthopedic Surgical unit, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides clinical support and direct care according to the scope and standards set out in the College of Nurses of Ontario Practice Guideline. The RPN will provide high quality nursing care to patients in collaboration with the Registered Nurse on the unit. The RPN is responsible for assessing care needs, implementing the health care plan and reporting any changes in a patient’s status. Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse Current Certificates or current Community College studies in asepsis, wound care, airway management, complex wound care, patient assessment, urinary catheterization, administering enteral feeds, Medication administration, transcribing orders Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or equivalent Recent experience in acute Medical and or Surgical setting, within the last two (2) years Demonstrated experience in working with an interdisciplinary team Demonstrated ability to function in an environment which is fast-paced, with unpredictable patient outcomes Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and other members of the healthcare team Ability to set priorities and organize work in response to patient needs Demonstrated knowledge of TLC protocols (Transfer/Lifts for Caregivers) Demonstrated excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Exigences

Candidates must hold a current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. Recent experience in an acute medical or surgical setting within the last two years is required.
