Résumé du poste
Lead all preconstruction and estimating efforts for commercial, institutional, and light industrial projects while building strong client and consultant relationships. Oversee the transition from initial budgeting and design development to project execution and operations.
Détails du poste
Our client is a well-established Calgary-based General Contractor with a strong reputation for delivering commercial, light industrial, and institutional projects across Alberta. As the business continues to grow, they are seeking a Director of Preconstruction to lead estimating, client engagement, and project planning activities across the organization. This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing projects during the earliest stages of development, from initial client conversations through budgeting, design development, procurement strategy, and handoff to operations. You'll work closely with clients, consultants, ownership groups, and project teams to help secure work and position projects for success before construction begins. This role is best suited for a relationship-focused construction professional who combines strong technical knowledge with business acumen. The successful candidate will be actively involved in winning work, shaping project strategy, and mentoring estimating and preconstruction staff. Key Responsibilities Lead all preconstruction and estimating efforts across commercial, institutional, and light industrial projects. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, developers, and industry partners. Oversee conceptual budgets, cost plans, value engineering exercises, and detailed estimates. Support business development activities, proposal submissions, client presentations, and negotiated opportunities. Identify project risks, procurement challenges, and constructability issues early in the process. Work closely with Operations teams to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to project execution. Mentor and develop estimating and preconstruction professionals within the organization. Contribute to the company's growth strategy through market insight, client engagement, and pursuit planning. What We're Looking For 10+ years of experience within a General Contractor environment. Strong background in estimating, preconstruction, project management, or project delivery. Experience delivering commercial, institutional, and/or light industrial construction projects. Proven ability to develop client relationships and support work acquisition efforts. Strong understanding of project budgeting, procurement strategies, scheduling, and risk management. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring junior staff and building strong teams. Previous experience in a Director of Preconstruction, Preconstruction Manager, Chief Estimator, Senior Estimator, or similar leadership role is preferred. Why This Opportunity? Join a respected Calgary contractor with a strong reputation and stable pipeline of work. Play a key role in shaping project strategy and securing future opportunities. Work directly with ownership and senior leadership on the company's growth initiatives. Opportunity to influence both project outcomes and the future direction of the business. This is not a role for someone who simply produces estimates. We're looking for a leader who enjoys building relationships, developing people, identifying opportunities, and helping clients navigate projects from concept to construction.
