Job Description Medix College is seeking a full-time Financial Aid Officer to join our team! Position Summary: The Financial Aid Officer is responsible for performing a variety of duties associated with the coordination, awarding, disbursement and returning of provincial financial aid assistance programs, as well as the collection of all tuition fees. Essential Functions * Guiding and advising students in their search for educationally-related financial assistance; determining under which program the student(s) should apply based on students' status, reviews, completed applications and approves/denies assistance and appeals of the standard OSAP assessment and OSAP part time loan/grant/bursary funding programs * Providing budget counseling to students and recommending plans to address financial issues and managing financial crises experienced by students; Conducting interviews with students, parents/partners and other third parties * Developing accurate costs by program for distribution to the appropriate funding authorities; providing consultation to internal and external college communities with accurate information and advice regarding policies and procedures * Ensuring proper distribution of OSAP funding (including approving tuition fee deferrals and tuition fee deduction from OSAP funds) in accordance with MCU and Career College Group policies and procedures * Maintaining fully up-to-date knowledge about frequently changing government plans and processes by researching latest legislation changes relating to all programs administered and reviewing their implications for financial aid activities * Verifying student eligibility for funding by reviewing student income, registration status, fee payments and collection of Medix and NATS tuition fees in a timely manner, satisfactory academic progression * Tracking and updating all outstanding accounts including current, withdrawn and graduated student * Submitting monthly progress reports on all accounts receivables * Liaising with a variety of government/agency representatives and financial institutions on behalf of students, and with other Financial Aid Advisors to coordinate/ conduct/ participate in shared events and workshops * Liaising regularly with other Financial Aid Advisors to coordinate/conduct/ participate in shared events and workshops * Contributing to the development and/or revisions of policies, and procedures that enhance the effectiveness of business practices and improve customer service in the Financial Aid Office * Provide information to students regarding financial aid program requirements and procedure * Accept financial aid applications, forms; review for completeness, accuracy; verify information reported on student applications to determine eligibility for awards; screen applications; review student folders, transcripts, test scores, and process * Maintain a high level of confidentiality and document security * Interpret, apply and comply with federal, provincial and institutional regulations governing student financial aid; maintain current working knowledge of guidelines/regulations related to financial aid * Maintain a close working relationship with Admissions, Education and Administration departments * Participate in all required meetings and events as assigned * Provide exemplary customer service by going the extra mile for the customer * Other duties as requested by the Campus Director Position Requirements: Formal Education and Job-Related Experience: This position requires a minimum formal education of a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience. A minimum of one year of job-related experience required.
