Practice Description The Kelowna General Hospital is recruiting within the Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology. Join a team of neurologists with a vision of exceptional neurological care for all. In Kelowna there are opportunities to thrive in medical education, research, quality improvement, and leadership. Our neurologists work with partners in Interior Health and the University of British Columbia Okanagan Southern Medical Program. This position will include a combination of acute care coverage with our hospital-based neurology services and outpatient practice. We are interested in recruiting colleagues with an interest in general neurology practice as well as subspecialty interests. We have active clinical programs currently in stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, neuromuscular disease, movement disorders, neuro-ophthalmology and headache within our group. Kelowna General Hospital has diagnostic services including CT, MRI, angiography, EEG and EMG. The position includes participation in our hospital's neurology acute care on-call service. Our Division provides a neurology service and a stroke neurology service. The expected frequency of on-call coverage is 1:6 or less. Our hospital is a teaching site in the UBC Faculty of Medicine Southern Medical Program, and our Division members teach medical trainees at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The successful candidate is encouraged to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the University of British Columbia Department of Medicine and to participate in clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and other trainees. KELOWNA GENERAL HOSPITAL Kelowna General Hospital (KGH), one of BC's leading healthcare centres, is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health. We offer a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 emergency department visits a year. Home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC), KGH houses BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland, as well as its principal surgical site. The IHSC features 12 specialized operating rooms designed for thoracic, urology, neurosurgery, vascular, plastic, obstetric/gynecologic, ear, nose, and throat, orthopedic, general, and trauma surgeries. Of these, two operating rooms are dedicated to cardiac surgery. Within the IHSC, KGH also has a modern maternity ward and an adjacent neonatal intensive care unit. Our state-of-the-art Centennial Building boasts 360,000 square feet and includes an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, new medical inpatient units, modern operating rooms, and a rooftop helipad. Additional facilities include a dedicated pediatric ward, as well as adolescent and adult psychiatry units. The Dr. Walter Anderson Building houses enhanced laboratory and clinical departments, supporting advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program, affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC), and has an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the UBC Faculty of Medicine. Actual income will vary depending on clinical activity and call participation.
