Job Purpose Herc Rentals is seeking a certified Journeyman Off-Road Technician or Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) to join our team. This role is ideal for a highly skilled mechanic with strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities who enjoys working on a diverse fleet of power generation and environmental control equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment including generators, diesel engines, pumps, heaters, dehumidifiers, air movers, and HVAC equipment. Experience working with both Tier 3 and Tier 4 engines and generator systems is highly preferred. This position offers a blend of shop-based (70%) and field-based (30%) work, along with participation in a rotational on-call schedule every second week. What you will do... Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections on Herc-owned rental equipment. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair generators and diesel-powered equipment. Service and maintain pumps, heaters, HVAC equipment, dehumidifiers, and air movers. Diagnose and repair Tier 3 and Tier 4 diesel engines and associated systems. Troubleshoot hydraulic, fuel, electrical, and mechanical issues to identify root causes and complete effective repairs. Perform oil changes, lubrication, battery replacements, hose repairs, and component replacements as required. Conduct field service calls and emergency repairs at customer locations. Complete inspections and identify equipment deficiencies before they impact performance or reliability. Maintain detailed service reports, repair records, and work orders. Follow all company safety procedures and customer site requirements. Maintain clean and organized work areas in both shop and field environments. Build strong relationships with customers through professional communication and service excellence. Participate in the rotational on-call schedule to support customer operations and equipment uptime. Perform other duties as required to support branch operations. Skills Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities. Strong understanding of diesel engine systems and power generation equipment. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong customer service and communication skills. Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and equipment reliability. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while remaining a collaborative team member. Requirements Journeyman Off-Road Technician Certification or Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Certification required. Apprentices will not be considered. Strong experience repairing and maintaining generators and diesel-powered equipment. Proven experience troubleshooting and repairing Tier 3 and Tier 4 engines. Experience working with pumps, heaters, HVAC equipment, dehumidification, and air movement equipment is an asset. Strong diagnostic skills across electrical, fuel, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively in a shop environment. Ability to participate in an on-call rotation every two weeks. Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence. Clean driver's abstract required.
