Position: Dietary Helper Position Type: Casual Positions Available Hourly Rate of Pay: $26.3057 - $27.6801 The Department of Food Services plays an essential role in the overall functioning of the Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre. It is a high profile department impacting all patients and staff through the provision of food and beverages. The food services department encompasses both patient food services as well as non-patient food services. The Dietary Helper provides food service to patients in hospital by portioning food, preparing cold foods, assembling patient trays and performing all duties related to washing and sanitizing patient trays and the service areas. Our Ideal Candidate Possess knowledge of food services sufficient to understand therapeutic diets, food production and service processes in a hospital environment. Must have proficient English language literacy skills sufficient to read and comprehend job procedures, supply labels, patient information including new patient admissions, order sheets, menus, maintain records and accurately transcribe and relay information and phone messages, all done with emphasis on accuracy. Must possess knowledge of arithmetic, weights and measures sufficient to portion out accurate quantities of food ingredients in accordance with established standards. Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to work cooperatively with other food service staff and present a positive image to patients, visitors and other HDS team members. Must have ability to withstand hot temperatures in a kitchen environment. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and possess organizational skills sufficient to rearrange own work load to meet established priorities. Must have the ability to perform the physical demands of the position, i.e. lifting, pushing, bending and reaching. Position requires extensive standing and walking. Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset. The Successful Candidate Will Possess An Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent. Safe Food Handlers Certification required. One or more years of recent related experience preferred. Successful completion of a Food Services Worker Program (or current enrolment) from a recognized college preferred. Casual employees must be available for all days, and all shifts including weekends and statutory holidays.
