ROLE As the primary contact person, the Unit Clerk coordinates unit activities to promote relationships with patients, visitors and healthcare professions. In addition, the Unit Clerk contributes to the efficient function of the Unit primarily through effective clerical and communication activities. As a member of the team, the unit clerk is accountable for performing receptionist, communication, order entry and coordination of transports on the unit. In addition, the unit clerk assists with all aspects of patient flow. REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S) * Minimum Grade 12 Education * Two year Medical Office Administration Diploma REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S) * Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families and healthcare providers * Excellent time management and organizational skills * Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work, multi-task and be flexible to changing circumstances * Excellent typing skills, including proper spelling and grammar * Advanced computer skills * Extensive knowledge/experience with Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and Meditech Information System (OE, PCI * Basic knowledge of medical terminology required * Attention to detail in all areas of work * Ability to work independently as well as a team player * Commitment to privacy * Demonstrates strong customer service and patient/family centred skills DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION * Minimum one year experience in a healthcare setting preferred ADDITIONAL PERKS AT HPHA * Preceptor/Peer Mentorship Opportunities * Collaborative Team Environment * Enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) * Extended Health/Semi Private and Dental Benefits (for Part-time and Full-time only) * Diverse Committees and Engagement Opportunities * Opportunities to grow your career and explore different roles within the hospital OUR COMMUNITIES Our communities are small in size but large in amusement; you will always find spectacular local heritage, a live event, a wide range of cuisine and locally owned stores.
