This position is being planned for due to potential enrolment growth and is expected to begin in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will lead a PreKindergarten HomeForm and become part of a collaborative Primary team committed to delivering one of the region's strongest academically focused preschool programs. For some candidates, this opportunity will include establishing a new classroom by designing the learning environment, selecting a classroom theme, organizing resources, and building a positive classroom culture before students arrive in September. Our PreKindergarten program combines structured, evidence-based instruction with purposeful play, inquiry, movement, exploration, and individual student coaching. Every activity has a clear developmental and academic purpose. Whether students are participating in circle time, centres, dramatic play, sensory experiences, outdoor learning, art, music, or hands-on investigations, teachers intentionally develop oral language, vocabulary, pre-reading, pre-writing, early mathematics, executive functioning, and social development. Drawing upon leading Canadian and international early years practices, our goal is to ensure every child enters Junior Kindergarten with strong learning habits, confidence, independence, and well-developed foundations in literacy, numeracy, communication, and self-regulation while remaining fully developmentally appropriate in both instruction and classroom experience. Teachers are supported by the Ontario curriculum, Cambridge International Curriculum frameworks, and a collaborative Early Years team committed to continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will: Serve as the HomeForm teacher for a PreKindergarten classroom. Deliver an academically focused early learning program built upon purposeful play and explicit instruction. Develop strong foundations in oral language, vocabulary, phonological awareness, pre-reading, pre-writing, and early mathematics. Lead daily circle time, teacher-guided instruction, purposeful learning centres, stories, music, movement, outdoor learning, and hands-on investigations. Create engaging learning experiences that develop communication, executive functioning, fine motor skills, creativity, curiosity, confidence, and independence. Create a welcoming, organized, and structured classroom with clear routines and high expectations. Build strong relationships with students and families. Conduct regular teacher-student learning conversations that celebrate growth and support individual development. Differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs while maintaining high expectations. Assess student learning using a variety of strategies and communicate progress regularly with families. Collaborate with Early Years colleagues to strengthen curriculum, instruction, and student achievement. Contribute positively to the broader life of the school. The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate: Has a genuine passion for PreKindergarten education. Believes young children are capable of developing strong academic foundations through purposeful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Understands the importance of explicit instruction in early literacy and numeracy while recognizing that purposeful play is an essential part of how young children learn. Demonstrates excellent classroom management through positive relationships, consistency, engaging instruction, and predictable routines. Creates a classroom where children feel safe, supported, challenged, and excited to learn every day. Meets students where they are developmentally while encouraging continuous growth. Values teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement. Builds positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Is organized, dependable, creative, patient, reflective, and enthusiastic. Wants to make a meaningful impact during a child's earliest years of learning. Qualifications Ontario College of Teachers certification or eligibility for certification is considered an asset. Bachelor of Education is considered an asset. Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) certification or equivalent early childhood qualifications are welcomed. Experience teaching in an academically focused preschool, PreKindergarten, Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, or Grade 1 classroom is preferred. Strong understanding of child development, oral language development, early literacy, pre-reading, pre-writing, and early mathematics. Experience implementing evidence-based early literacy and numeracy practices is considered an asset. Experience with Cambridge curriculum, independent schools, or enriched academic programming is considered an asset. What We Offer PreKindergarten HomeForm assignment. Candidates should ideally hold OCT certification, a Bachelor of Education, or RECE certification. Experience teaching in an academically focused early years classroom and a strong understanding of child development are preferred.
