Regulatory Consultant - Measurement Intricate Group Inc. | Calgary, AB (Hybrid) | Full-time Intricate is a Calgary-based regulatory solutions firm for upstream and midstream oil and gas producers across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and BC. Our edge is an integrated model: field measurement and emissions services, regulatory and technical consulting, and our own compliance software, working as one. Most firms hand operators a single piece of the puzzle. We connect the field to the analysis to the software, which closes the gaps where compliance problems tend to hide, and lets operators get back to what they're in business to do: produce. Our consultants work at the center of that model, with the full picture rather than a narrow slice of it. We're looking for a Regulatory Consultant with a measurement and instrumentation core. This is a consulting role first and a technical role second. We want someone who can walk into a client's operation, figure out what the real problem is, build the case for solving it, and present that case in a way that gets a decision made. Your measurement and instrumentation background is what earns you the seat at the table. The consulting skills are what make you effective once you're there. WHAT THE ROLE IS REALLY ABOUT - Problem identification: sitting with a client's measurement data and operations and diagnosing what's actually going wrong, not just what they think is going wrong - Business case development: translating a measurement or instrumentation issue into cost, risk, and compliance terms that a client can act on - Advisory and presentation: communicating findings clearly to client contacts and leadership, in writing and in the room, and defending the recommendation - Delivery: building structured, defensible analyses that hold up to client and regulator scrutiny and add real tangible value THE MEASUREMENT WORK This is the core of the role. You'll spend most of your time on: - Measurement compliance under AER Directive 017: facility measurement reviews, single-well and group measurement, proration and allocation analysis - Instrumentation and metering: meter selection and sizing, proving and calibration, meter deviation applications, and diagnosing measurement error at the device level - Petrinex volumetric analysis, amendments, and reconciliation against field and accounting records - Field work: site verification, measurement audits, and facility schematic reviews BEYOND MEASUREMENT Because of how we're built, you'll get exposure to the wider regulatory picture over time, and depth in any of these is a strong asset: EPAP (Enhanced Production Audit Program), Directive 060, and emissions programs including offset development, TIER, MSAPR, NPRI, and GHGRP. You won't need these on day one, but the appetite to grow into them matters since they matter to our clients WHAT YOU BRING - A strong technical foundation in measurement, instrumentation, or a closely related discipline (operations or engineering with real metering exposure) - Working knowledge of AER Directive 017 and upstream measurement requirements, or the instrumentation background to get there quickly - The instinct to identify problems and the discipline to build a case around solving them - Genuine presentation and communication ability, comfortable advising clients and presenting to their leadership - Strong analytical skills and comfort building structured analyses in Excel - A driver's license and willingness to travel to sites periodically NICE TO HAVE - Direct experience with Petrinex and production accounting - Familiarity with EPAP, Directive 060, TIER, or MSAPR - Exposure to Saskatchewan and BC measurement frameworks - A relevant technical designation (P.Eng., C.E.T., or similar) - Prior consulting or producer-side experience LOCATION Hybrid role based in Calgary with some time required in the field.
