Location: Hybrid (1 day per week in person) - Vancouver office Fixed-Term Contract (3 Months) Part-Time | Approximately 35-40 Hours per Month; flexible with some in person Compensation: $1,000–$2,000 CAD per Month About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented Waste Analyst to support environmental data collection, waste characterization, and reporting initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with data, identifying patterns, and contributing to sustainability and resource recovery efforts. Working primarily remotely, you will review waste-related imagery and datasets, classify materials into defined categories, and ensure data accuracy to support environmental reporting, compliance requirements, and industry benchmarking initiatives. While the majority of work can be completed remotely, successful candidates must be located in the Greater Vancouver Area and able to attend in-person team meetings and collaboration sessions in Downtown Vancouver approximately once per week. What You'll Do Review and classify waste materials from images, videos, and supporting documentation Categorize materials into predefined waste and recycling streams Accurately label and document waste composition data Perform quality assurance reviews to ensure consistency and accuracy of classifications Identify contamination trends and material recovery opportunities Support the preparation of environmental performance reports and regulatory submissions Maintain organized records and datasets in accordance with internal standards Collaborate with project teams to improve classification processes and data quality Participate in weekly in-person team meetings and collaborative working sessions Assist with ad hoc research and analysis related to waste management, recycling, and resource recovery programs What We're Looking For Strong attention to detail and ability to identify patterns within large datasets Comfortable reviewing and classifying visual information with a high degree of accuracy Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to follow established procedures and maintain data consistency Proficiency with spreadsheets and data management tools Excellent written communication and documentation skills Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a remote environment Must be located in the Lower Mainland and able to commute to Downtown Vancouver on a weekly basis Ideal to Have Background in environmental science, sustainability, waste management, recycling, geography, engineering, or a related field Experience with data annotation, quality assurance, auditing, or compliance reporting Familiarity with waste streams, recycling systems, circular economy principles, or environmental reporting frameworks Experience working with image-based datasets or classification tools Why Join Us This is an opportunity to contribute to projects that support sustainable resource management and environmental performance measurement.
