Legal Counsel (Corporate) Build the Arctic’s Legal Future. Early in Your Career. Most lawyers wait a decade for files like these. At Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC), you will work on them in year three. IRC represents the collective interests of the Inuvialuit, the Inuit of Canada’s Western Arctic, and stewards almost $2 billion in assets under the Inuvialuit Final Agreement. Arctic infrastructure, energy, and northern development are accelerating, and our Corporate Legal team sits at the centre of it. We are hiring a Legal Counsel – Corporate (2–3 year call) to work directly with our Senior Counsel – Corporate. You will draft and negotiate real agreements, support major construction and procurement projects, modernize governance across a complex corporate group, and help build the legal operations and technology backbone of a growing in-house function. Salary: $138,000 – $162,000 base, depending on experience and year of call. Posted because we think you should know before you invest an evening in an application. What you will do Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, with real ownership of your files. Support major construction, infrastructure, and procurement projects across the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Help implement contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools, templates, and playbooks as part of our legal operations transformation. Maintain governance records and support board processes across IRC and its subsidiaries. Support acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships, including due diligence and transaction documents. Teach as you go: build training, guidance, and plain-language resources that raise legal literacy across the organization. Why IRC Mandate that matters: every file ultimately advances the economic, social, and cultural well-being of the Inuvialuit. Mentorship by design: you report to the Senior Counsel – Corporate inside a growing legal and corporate affairs function led by the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer. Build, not just practice: shape the templates, systems, and tools you will work with every day. Location flexibility: based in Inuvik, NT (gateway to the Western Arctic) or Calgary, AB with regular northern travel. What you bring JD and 2–3 years post-call experience in corporate, commercial, construction, procurement, governance, or transactional work. Member in good standing of a Canadian law society and eligible for admission to the Law Society of the Northwest Territories. Strong drafting and negotiation skills, sound judgment, and the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives. Curiosity about legal technology, process improvement, and how a modern legal department runs. Genuine respect for Inuvialuit culture and the communities we serve. Experience with Indigenous-owned organizations is a strong asset. Process and timeline We move fast and we respect your time. Applications close July 12. Interviews run July 13–24. We extend an offer July 27, sign July 31, and welcome our new colleague August 17th. IRC gives preference to qualified Inuvialuit beneficiaries in accordance with its hiring policies, and encourages all qualified candidates to apply. Apply with a resume and message us directly with questions. We will take a sharp, curious conversation over a polished resume any day.
