THE OPPORTUNITY Jewell Engineering Inc. is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Oakville office in a full-time, permanent position. Reporting to senior management, the successful candidate will lead structural design assignments, manage multidisciplinary projects, support construction-phase activities, and help maintain strong relationships with public- and private-sector clients. This position offers an opportunity to contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from structural assessment, analysis, and detailed design through contract administration and construction review. The Structural Engineer will also provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate team members. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES · Perform structural calculations and prepare specifications and detailed designs in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices. · Lead and supervise the production of structural design drawings with a focus on bridge/culvert designs, retaining walls, etc. Building design experience is considered an asset · Lead, manage, and deliver multidisciplinary engineering projects for a variety of public- and private-sector clients. · Establish and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and professional service. · Conduct or oversee site inspections, condition assessments, and structural investigations. · Evaluate existing structures and develop recommendations for repair, rehabilitation, or replacement. · Prepare technical reports, memoranda, and presentations. · Perform contract administration and site review duties during the construction phase of projects. · Review contractor shop drawings and respond to construction-related inquiries. · Prepare project budgets, proposals, and scopes of work for new opportunities. · Monitor project schedules and budgets to support successful project delivery. · Perform quality-control reviews of structural engineering services. · Mentor and manage junior and intermediate engineers, technicians, and support staff. · Report to senior management. QUALIFICATIONS · A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. · A master's degree in Structural Engineering, considered an asset. · A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and licence to practise in Ontario. · A minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience. · Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code, and applicable standards governing concrete, steel, and wood structures. · Demonstrated experience designing concrete, steel, and wood structures. · Advanced knowledge of structural analysis and design software. · Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with MicroStation is considered an asset. · Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills. · A valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and access to a personal vehicle for travel to project sites.
