JNE Welding is one of the most diverse custom steel fabricators in Western Canada, providing engineer-to-order, custom steel fabrications to the mining, petroleum, gas, heavy oil, energy, and environmental sectors. We are seeking a skilled Press Brake Operator experienced in operating both CNC and manual press brake equipment. The primary focus of this role is the safe and accurate forming of metal components using a variety of tooling, dies, and machine controls. The operator will also support fabrication workflow by running other equipment such as the ironworker, shear, and saw as required. This position is suited for a detail-oriented individual who can work independently, read and interpret technical drawings and maintain high-quality standards. Primary Responsibilities: Press Brake Operation (CNC & Manual) * Set up and operate CNC press brakes, including entering or selecting programs, adjusting bend parameters, setting back gauges, and loading/unloading materials. * Set up and operate manual press brakes, including selecting tooling, adjusting ram settings, and establishing bend sequences manually. * Read and interpret fabrication drawings, bend diagrams, flat patterns, and material * specifications to determine accurate machine setups. * Select, install, and adjust tooling, punches, dies, and gauges to match material type and part requirements. * Perform first-off inspections and monitor part quality throughout production runs, adjusting settings as needed to maintain tight tolerances. * Verify dimensions using calipers, tape measures, protractors, angle finders, or other measurement tools. * Maintain proper bend order, safe forming practices, and material handling techniques to protect equipment and ensure part accuracy. Secondary Responsibilities: * Operate Plate Rolls * Operate ironworker to complete punching, shearing, bending, coping, or notching tasks. * Operate sheet metal shear to cut material to designated lengths and widths. * Operate band saw or cold saw to cut structural steel, tubing, and bar stock. * Assist other team members with fabrication tasks or workflow needs throughout the shop. Quality Control & Documentation * Inspect all parts for accuracy, quality, and consistency, ensuring compliance with fabrication standards. * Identify material defects, incorrect specifications, or equipment performance issues. * Record production details, part counts, and setup information accurately and legibly. * Maintain clear communication with supervision regarding quality issues or production challenges. * Material traceability including lot / heat number traceability and part marking requirements. Safety & Equipment Maintenance * Follow all established safety procedures, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout practices. * Perform basic maintenance on press brakes and related equipment (cleaning, lubrication, checking tool condition). * Keep work area clean, organized, and free of hazards. * Report any unsafe conditions, equipment failures, or maintenance needs immediately. The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience: * Grade 12 with advanced math. * 3+ years of related experience. * Experience operating both CNC and manual press brakes in a fabrication or manufacturing environment (preferred). * Experience with CNC press brake programming (e.g., Accurpress, Amada, Cincinnati, Safan, or similar). * Capable of setting up jigs. * Good knowledge of material size, types, shapes, and grades. * Experience with material traceability including lot / heat number traceability and part marking requirements. * Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and measurements with accuracy. * Strong understanding of material behavior during bending (steel, aluminum, stainless). * Competent use of measurement instruments (tape, calipers, angle tools). * Experience with ironworker, shear, or saw operation, or willingness to learn. * Knowledge of bend allowances, bend deductions, and flat pattern development. * Ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods. * Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. * Positive attitude with a team-oriented mindset. * Good interpersonal and communication skills. * 40 - hour crane training.
