High School Teacher
About the role
Kitasoo Community School is seeking a dedicated and passionate High School Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will teach high school students (grades 8-12) in a variety of subject areas, foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, and contribute to the holistic development of students. As a small, community-based school in Klemtu, BC, we value educators who are adaptable, culturally responsive, and committed to supporting the academic and personal growth of students in a remote setting.
Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Delivery:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the BC curriculum in designated subject areas (e.g., English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, etc.).
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students can achieve their potential.
- Integrate Indigenous knowledge, language, and perspectives into the curriculum to promote cultural understanding and relevance.

Student Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assess and evaluate student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment tools.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians regularly.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including report cards and progress reports.

Classroom Management:
- Create a positive and respectful classroom environment that promotes learning and collaboration.
- Implement effective strategies for managing classroom behavior and ensuring student safety and well-being.

Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and the administration to meet the needs of students.
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay current with educational trends.
- Contribute to school initiatives, events, and extracurricular activities.

Community Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and the broader community to support student success.
- Respect and honor the cultural traditions and values of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais Nation.

Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid BC Teacher Certification or eligibility to obtain certification.

Experience:
- Previous teaching experience at the high school level is an asset.
- Experience working in Indigenous communities or remote settings is an advantage.
