Substitute Teachers for: Position Title: Grade 7, 8, 9
Reports To: School Principal
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: Competitive salary and benefits package
Department: Education
Hours of Work: 35 Hours/Week Monday - Friday
Tsay Keh Dene School is looking for a motivated, adventurous Teacher who would like to join our dynamic and energetic team for a rewarding experience in a remote northern First Nation community. Tsay Keh Dene is a community with an average population of about 200 people on the northern shore of the Williston Reservoir. The community is nestled in the scenic Rocky Mountain Trench, north of Prince George, BC and is accessible by a forest service road or by airplane. There are plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, and others. The school provides competitive wages and benefits. Teachers are provided with professional development opportunities and free accommodation throughout the contract term.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with BC curriculum.
- Integrate culturally relevant education, including land-based and experiential learning.
- Provide a safe, supportive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.
- Work collaboratively with Education staff, support workers, Elders, and community programs.
- Maintain accurate documentation, attendance, student assessments, and progress reports.
- Participate in school activities, community events, and professional development.
- Promote positive behavior, conflict resolution, and social-emotional learning.
- Support students in achieving academic, personal, and cultural goals.
Required:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent teaching credential.
- Valid BC Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification).
- Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
Preferred:
- Experience working in Indigenous or remote communities.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and land-based teaching practices.
- Understanding of local First Nations contexts, history, and cultural protocols.
- Strong communication, classroom management, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to participate in on-the-land activities, field trips, and community programming.
