We are currently looking for a Human Resources Generalist (contract) to join our busy and growing manufacturing company. The successful candidate will be engaged in elevating the department and company to the next level. The incumbent will be forward looking and thrive in a culture of continuous improvement.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will be the first point of contact for all employee relations and people operations services at the Romet facility, will support the Director of Human Resources within all areas of Human Resources. This position will actively cross-train with other members of the team. This position is not responsible for any direct reports.
Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- First point of contact for employees on employee relations and people operations services, escalate or communicate to the HR Director as required
- Assist employees with inquiries on vacation, benefits, pay, use of self-service kiosks, etc.
- Trained as super user on the UKG system, run various reports using BI reporting, provide training, and support to employees and leaders
- Delivery and support of our e-platform for all employee services (including Vubiz and employee self-serve)
- Manage all employee data records and overall system integrity and reporting within the appropriate software programs and systems
- Payroll auditing and providing payroll direction on all changes
- Bi-weekly retirement plans contribution reporting
- KPI reporting on manpower and turnover
- Leave of absences and medical leaves case management
- Manage regulatory and compliance training (including Forklift, Hoist, TDG, etc.) with our training partner
- Track and maintain Romet University training records
- Track and maintain training records, ensure training is updated prior to expiry dates
- Input all training records and dates and file all records and run reports as needed
- Monitor the skill matrix for tracking cross-training efforts in the plant
- Post communications, monitor the bulletin boards for current items only, maintain the forms centers
- Employee program management (including 75-day reviews, taxable benefit tracking, retirement and benefit enrollments, system training to administrators)
- Assist with retirement education sessions
- Assist with performance management tracking, creation of and issuing of warning letters
- Offboarding checklists, and exit interviews as required
- Assist on Health and Safety initiatives, including accident reporting, WSIB accidents, Health and Safety related training, First Aid training records, etc.
- Crosstrain with and support the Talent Acquisition Specialist with end-to-end recruiting involvement including track job reqs, review job description, post job openings, screen resumes, schedule interviews, participate in interviews, obtain job and training grants when applicable
- Backup support for new hire onboarding; provide new hire orientations, track, and ensure all items are completed on the new hire checklist including background/reference checks, new hire photos, announcements, register employee on the punch clock, order lab coats, excess work hours agreements, IT request form, etc.
- Manage security ID cards, building/door security
- Assist with compensation planning and market analysis
- Track the Safety Footwear and Prescription Safety Eyewear Subsidy Programs for usage
- Backup to provide safety walks for new hires
- Ensure confidentiality of employee information
- Participate as a member of the social committee and assist with related company social events, and event planning
- All other duties and projects as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to balance the needs and demands from multiple departments and managers
- Strong communications skills, ability to interact effectively with others
- Natural ability to be friendly and approachable, and to build strong relationships with a wide range of employees/leaders/positions
- Experience/exposure to a manufacturing environment, working with machinists, assemblers, general labour staff as well as all office positions, sales, engineers, and managers
- Effective time management, planning, analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential/personal information
- Adaptable and able to respond to “urgent” requests and able to work with limited supervision
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and specifically Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Able to create tables and auto-calculations, and import/export text and link spreadsheets
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Proven ability to deliver results with precise attention to detail
- Strategic mind that is able to proficiently think through problems and solutions
- Ability to effectively coach, provide advice, and support team members, be a strong team player with knowledge share and an open ability for full communication share
- Ability to manage significant workload including conflicting priorities
- Knowledge of Employment Standards across Ontario and/or Canada preferred, US employment law an asset
- General knowledge of benefits, retirement plans, and/or payroll administration practices preferred
- Some knowledge of WSIB and Workers Compensation guidelines is considered an asset
Educational/Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience in Human Resources role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- College Certificate/Diploma or related work experience
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources and/or Health and Safety considered an asset
- CHRP/CHRL Designation considered an asset; or in the process of achieving designation
