About the role
**The Opportunity – Teacher: 1.0 FTE **
James Cameron School is seeking a caring, passionate, and progressive teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Situated in the community of Maple Ridge, James Cameron School is a small non-profit elementary school accredited by the Independent Schools Branch of the Ministry of Education that serves students in grades 3-7. Our school celebrates diversity and addresses the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of children who have dyslexia and language-based learning challenges. The successful candidate will enjoy small class sizes, EA support, competitive salary, full benefits package including RRSP matching up to 2% and a condensed schoolyear while empowering students to achieve their full potential.
Instructional Hours: 8:15 –2:45p.m. daily
Additional hours: monthly staff meeting, monthly teacher meeting -3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Meet the staff night 3-7 p.m., parent-staff conferences 3-7 p.m. student-led conferences 3-7 p.m.
Year-end program 7 – 9 p.m.
Duties:
Homeroom teacher:
- Includes attendance in MyEducationBC, announcements, check planner, collect notes
- Plan and prepare for a good start to every day
- Provide inclusive and caring class setting
Teaching assignment includes:
- Plan and prepare year overview for each of the above subjects, as per requirements laid out by Independent Schools Branch of the Ministry of Education.
- Plan and prepare daily plans as set out in overview
- Be familiar with each student’s individual needs as set out in the assessments and the IEP
- Be prepared to make suggestions and apply recommended accommodations for each student
- Be prepared to work closely with EA assigned to class, to work with other professionals as required (counselor, O/T, S/L P etc.) and follow recommendations
- Be prepared to work closely with other staff members and with parents to implement recommendations in students’ assessments
- Requires flexibility, understanding, adaptability, familiarity with characteristic strengths and weaknesses of various types of learners, and skills to address the individual’s learning style
Requirements:
- Membership with the Teachers Regulation Branch – Professional Certification
- Familiarity with Diverse Needs and Best Practices
- Strong classroom management skills, a love for children, and being a team player are essential
