Accounting Manager
About the role
This posting is for a current vacancy.
We are seeking a Accounting Manager to join our Accounting team during an exciting period of growth. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering accurate, timely financial reporting for our expansive portfolio of real estate assets across Canada.
This position is process led and execution focused. It is less about managing a large team and more about owning, strengthening, and modernizing the end-to-end property accounting process across a defined portfolio. You will oversee a small team, but your primary impact will come from building discipline, improving workflows, optimizing systems, and ensuring reporting integrity in a high-volume environment.
In addition to the duties typically expected of an experienced accounting professional, responsibilities will include:
Property Accounting Ownership
- Own the full cycle accounting process for an assigned portfolio of properties, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple assets.
- Review journal entries related to operations, capital activity, and renovations.
- Oversee bank and general ledger reconciliations and ensure proper supporting documentation.
- Deliver complete and accurate financial statements with clear variance analysis.
- Maintain schedules for recoveries, property taxes, utilities, and capital expenditures.
- Ensure transactions align with lease terms, internal controls, and accounting policies.
Process Design and Internal Controls
- Identify inefficiencies, recurring errors, or control gaps and recommend practical improvements.
- Strengthen documentation and create repeatable, scalable workflows.
- Ensure audit readiness through organized working papers and reconciliations.
- Reduce reliance on manual work by redesigning processes for clarity and accountability.
Technology and System Optimization
- Maximize Yardi functionality to enhance reporting accuracy and workflow efficiency.
- Improve system configuration and reporting outputs to reduce manual adjustments.
- Introduce automation where appropriate to streamline reconciliations and recurring entries.
- Support system enhancements and integration of newly acquired properties.
- Develop clearer reporting tools and dashboards to track close progress and portfolio performance.
Team Oversight
- Provide direction on priorities and review work for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure timelines and documentation standards are consistently met.
- Support skill development related to systems, controls, and technical accounting.
- Create clarity around roles and accountability within the close process.
Operational Partnership
- Work closely with property management to explain financial results and resolve discrepancies.
- Provide structured financial insight into operating and capital activity.
- Support portfolio transitions and acquisition integration from an accounting perspective.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, with strong preference for direct property accounting or real estate portfolio experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing full cycle accounting for multiple properties or entities.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency with Yardi; experience optimizing modules and improving reporting workflows strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to redesign and strengthen accounting processes.
- High attention to detail with a disciplined, structured approach to execution.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast paced, growth-oriented organization.
- Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
Most importantly, we are a small yet mighty team. This is a roll up your sleeves, help where needed role. We show up for one another, pitch in when required, and support each other’s success. We are looking for teammates who are culture builders, who will positively contribute wherever needed just as this team will do for you when you need it.
This role is based in our offices five days a week, giving you the opportunity to work closely with your colleagues, learn from experienced professionals, and grow in a highly engaged team environment.
The approximate salary range for this role is $85,000–$110,000 per year.
