About the role
**Position Type:**Part-Time Chef **Schedule:**Full-day availability required on Mondays and Tuesdays; on-call availability on remaining days as needed
Reporting to the Centre Director, the Chef acts as an integral member of the Kids & Company team to assist in the overall management of day-to-day operations of all food preparation and cooking at the kitchen through the conscientious application of Kids & Company standards to achieve our mission statement.
###Responsibilities
- Responsible for all the cooking, baking, and food preparation for delivery to daycare centres on a day-to-day basis.
- Ensure safe food storage and disposal, including taking daily logs of food temperature and refrigerator/freezer temperatures.
- In addition to the regular food production schedule, the chef is responsible for preparing special meals and snacks for all allergen children, vegetarians, and any other special dietary needs.
- Ensure the accuracy and regularly updated list of allergen children.
- Be accountable for weekly ordering of all food supplies and kitchen equipment from head office.
- Ensure effective cost control by minimizing waste, proper food allocation, controlling food inventories, and maintaining kitchen equipment.
- Comply with all health and hygiene requirements under food safety and handling legislation.
- Oversee kitchen operations, including dishwashing and scheduled cleaning and sanitizing of appliances, counters, cupboards, and drawers.
- May be required to prepare food for field trips, school-age programs, and community events occasionally.
- May be required to deliver prepared food to daycare centres on some occasions.
- Duties and responsibilities may change from time to time based on the needs of the daycare centres.
###What You Need
- Current Food Handler Certification
- 2–4 years of Sous Chef or Chef work-related experience
- Experience in a daycare environment is an asset
- Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Criminal record check
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 45 pounds
