Reporting to our Director of Human Resources, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll and administering group benefits for all employees in a timely and accurate manner
Key Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees in a timely and accurate manner
- Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies and resolve issues
- Maintain employee records within Payworks
- Perform data entry tasks related to payroll adjustments, deductions, and benefits
- Process terminations and issue records of employment
- Collaborate with the HR department to ensure accurate employee classifications and compliance with labor laws
- Process benefit enrollments, changes and terminations
- Claim Wage Enhancement Grants from the Government of Alberta
- Generate payroll reports for management review and audits
- Train employees and managers on how to use Payworks
- Assist employees with payroll-related inquiries and provide support as needed
- Preparing and processing T4, taxable benefits, garnishee, WCB and other year-end payroll tasks
- Stay updated on changes in payroll regulations and best practices
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
- A PCP designation will be considered an asset
- 2+ years of payroll experience required
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Experience with HRIS platforms such as Payworks
- Strong analytical skills to assess data accuracy and resolve discrepancies
- Excellent data entry skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Knowledge of human resources practices related to payroll processing
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks effectively
- Strong communication skills for interaction with employees and management
