As a Facilities Technician, you'll play a key role in delivering both technical and administrative expertise-working alongside a collaborative team and valued partners to keep operations running smoothly, support ongoing improvements, and ensure facilities meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.

What you'll do

  • Acting as the department administrator for the ERP Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), records management systems, and related programs (e.g., space management, KPI tracking).
  • Receiving, coordinating, and monitoring CMMS service requests, work orders, and inspections to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Conducting customer service follow-ups on completed work to confirm quality and satisfaction.
  • Developing AutoCAD drawings and supporting procurement processes through preparation of specifications.
  • Maintaining and updating facility management records, KPI metrics, environmental reports, and realty asset data.
  • Assisting with the administration and coordination of construction and maintenance projects.
  • Supporting the coordination and administration of contracted service agreements (e.g., HVAC, elevators, fire suppression, generators, janitorial, and other services).
  • Coordinating inspections and maintaining compliance records for certified equipment with regulatory bodies (e.g., ABSA).
  • Managing departmental records, including drawings, specifications, manuals, and resource libraries.
  • Assisting in the development and tracking of operating and capital budgets.
  • Ensuring clear, accurate, and timely communication across the team and with stakeholders.

What you bring

  • Strong computer proficiency, including advanced experience with facility management systems, project management software, AutoCAD, and records management tools.
  • Working knowledge of procurement processes and building maintenance and construction practices.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and develop construction drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical documentation.
  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Sound judgement, initiative, and the ability to resolve routine issues independently.
  • A positive, flexible, and team-oriented approach, with a commitment to representing the City professionally.

Qualifications

  • A two (2) year Engineering/Architectural Technology Diploma, Built Environment Engineering Technology Diploma OR a one (1) year certificate in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), GIS Technician, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • For candidates with a one (1) year certificate: a minimum of two (2) years of directly related technical experience.
  • For candidates with a two (2) year diploma: a minimum of one (1) year of directly related technical experience.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with an acceptable driving record.
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Certified Technician (C.Tech.) designation is considered an asset.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
