Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- High school completion with job‑related options plus two years = directly-related experience.-
OR
- Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with no experience.
- Some post secondary education is preferred.
- Undergraduate degree in life sciences, or equivalent is preferred.
- Previous experience in stroke/neurology is preferred.
- Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) designation from the Society of Clinical Research Professionals (SoCRA) a definite asset.
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous research experience is required, including obtaining informed consent, participant recruitment and data management activities.
- Experience with preparing ethics submission, institutional impact, privacy and data access applications is a strong asset
- Previous experience in stroke research is a strong asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong attention to detail required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs including Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team-oriented environment is required.
- Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
- Excellent organization and time management skills are required.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions is required.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Training in TCPS-CORE (research ethics) and signed WRHA PHIA (pledge of confidentiality), UofM PHIA.
Key responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Participant recruitment and obtaining informed consent:
- Recruiting participants into research studies and obtaining informed consent.
- Conducting study assessments which may include the administration of questionnaires
- Chart review.
- Data entry into the study database. - Maintenance of a study recruitment log which will be updated on a weekly basis.
- Assuring proper storage of study documents (electronic or otherwise) to protect participant confidentiality and privacy.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Preparation and submission of Institutional Review Board (IRB):
- The research assistant will be responsible for preparing and submitting applications, amendments or annual reports to IRB’s and to other oversight committees as required in the nature of the research project. Typically, this will occur 1-3 times per year.
Communication with Principal Investigator and Attendance at Team Meetings:
- The research will report directly to the principal investigator of each study and will be expected to attend weekly team meetings with the PI and other members of the study team to report on study progress, recruitment and to identify any problems or barriers that have risen.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with all team members.
Communication with Health Care Staff in areas where the study is being conducted:

This will include coordinating with clinical staff in order to organize participant visits and obtain relevant patient information for the research project. This also includes communicating with the principal investigator and research manager to provide weekly updates on study progress

May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
