As the Senior Leader, Engineering and Projects, reporting to the Manager of Construction and Materials within the Mobility Business Unit, you will manage our capital budgets which include the annual pavement and concrete rehabilitation programs and lifecycle upgrade projects for our asphalt plant and crusher. You will oversee a technical team responsible for developing internal design and construction drawings for internal construction crews. Additionally, you will oversee the procurement, and construction administration of contracts. You will also provide oversight of responsible members and engineering staff to meet The City's permit obligations with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). Primary duties include:

  • Provide inclusive leadership to a team of engineers through respectful coaching and mentoring.
  • Provide responsible member oversight and direction on internal engineering designs and construction drawings and support the creation of guidelines, standards and policies for design and construction.
  • Manage capital budgets for the rehabilitation of sidewalks, roadways and lifecycle replacement and upgrades for the asphalt plant and crusher.
  • Oversee the planning, detailed design, cost estimating, interest holder relations, and construction project management of rehabilitation programs and lifecycle replacements and upgrades that are delivered by internal and external construction contractors.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other project delivery Business units that support rehabilitation program delivery.
  • Liaise with and report to internal and external parties, including but not limited to business and community associations, industry associations, committees and commissions and City Council.
  • Provide input into the budget planning process for infrastructure investment and assist in the development of short- and long-term capital plans.
  • Represent Construction and Materials on corporate committees and on construction projects delivered by other corporate teams that impact the transportation network.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related Engineering field.
  • You must have at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details**.**
  • At least 4 years of experience leading and supervising a team is required.
  • Experience working with infrastructure assets including concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, pavement is required.
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working on industrial plants, is a preferred asset.
  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing a strategic vision in a service-based environment, is a preferred asset.
  • Success in this position requires the ability to lead a team of professionals, strategic thinking and strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Level M2E $151,858 - 189,822 per annum

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
