Nicola-Similkameen School District serves the two communities of Merritt and Princeton, as well as six First Nations Bands, the Métis, and the Conayt Friendship Society. The mountains, lakes and valleys within the district make it a natural setting for fabulous, year-round outdoor activities. Princeton, situated in the Similkameen Valley, is beautifully located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, on a major highway connecting the Lower Mainland to the Okanagan Valley. Forestry, mining, tourism, agriculture, and ranching are mainstays of the local economy.

Our Strategic Plan has a “Success for ALL Learners” focus, supported by a dedicated staff, engaged rightsholders and partners who share a genuine commitment to the district. The district offers rich programming to just over 2075 students, 48% of whom are Indigenous. We are proud of our work towards Truth and Reconciliation.

Nicola Similkameen School District is accepting applications for qualified BC Certified Teachers.

** **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Demonstrate successful primary/intermediate/secondary level teaching experience.__

· Possess strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills.__

· Have the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff in a team setting.

· Have the proven ability to meet the needs of diverse learners through the application of differentiated instruction.

· Have an understanding of Aboriginal culture and be willing to learn and integrate Indigenous teachings into the curriculum.

· Valid B.C. Teaching Certificate and familiarity with B.C. curriculum.

Nicola Similkameen School District has received approval from the Human Rights Tribunal allowing preferential hiring to persons of Indigenous ancestry. The district may give preference in hiring persons of Indigenous ancestry who possess the necessary qualifications to increase the number of Indigenous staff to be more representative of the learners we serve.

The starting salary for this position ranges from $60,090 - $109,520, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications under the collective agreement.
