Pay Grade

The annual salary range is $70,437- $112,872 (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications, experience, and the placement criteria of Article 14 of the NICFA Collective agreement.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Trades and Technical programs or designate, this position supports coastal forest programing.

Faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College’s vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, inter-personal skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues.

This position supports forestry instructional faculty with the delivery of high-quality programming. This role also supports the ongoing development and review of programs, while ensuring programs are relevant to the needs of students, industry, and the community at large, as aligned with regional economic development plans and NIC’s BUILD 2026 strategic plan.

This position will actively support enhanced strategic recruitment and retention initiatives and promote student transition to employment opportunities.

The day-to-day priorities consistently include being the first point of contact for forestry faculty while liaising with service departments regarding student and academic performance matters and being versed on policies, procedures, and requirements. The role also entails supporting ongoing program development, program review, coordinating program information sessions and industry events, supporting program advisory committees, informing and facilitating program recruitment and marketing priorities, and being a resource in support of instructional excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To review existing core curricula at the certificate level in consultation with stakeholders, complete related curriculum development and prepare curricula for curriculum approval.

  • To develop core curricula for the diploma-level programming in consultation with stakeholders.

Required Education & Experience

  • Experience working with Coastal British Columbia forestry industry, Nations and government;

  • Registered Professional Forester and Registered Forest Technologist;

  • Minimum of 3 years current and related experience in a post secondary setting;

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the forestry industry;

  • Program development expertise; and

  • BC Instructor Diploma or BC Teaching Certificate is highly desirable.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated excellent instructional abilities, using a variety of creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning;

  • Working knowledge of computer applications, including Brightspace and Kaltura;

  • Willingness to work a flexible timetable; and

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
