Overview
The Project Manager (PM1) will report to the New Nuclear Development Project Manager (PM2) and be responsible for supporting proposal development and execution of various project initiatives that are critical to successful deployment of new nuclear builds. This role will require leadership of project team members such as engineering, procurement, construction, project controls, commercial and internal/external stakeholders including our client and other partner organizations. The PM is expected to have sound experience in project management and understanding of engineering, procurement, construction and project controls principles. The PM is responsible for project reporting, implementation and oversight of project governance and procedures, development of overall work breakdown structure (WBS), budget, schedule, organizational chart, subcontract and supplier strategy, risk management, cost and revenue forecasting and people forecasting and levelling (PFL) for the project.
Your role
Leadership & Strategic Alignment:
- The Project Manager will provide day‑to‑day leadership to the project organization by exemplifying AtkinsRéalis core values and ensuring alignment with safety, quality, schedule, cost, and contractual requirements.
- Working closely with the Incubator PM, the Project Manager shall plan, develop, and execute projects to achieve strategic objectives of the organization. This may include customer‑driven or internally funded feasibility studies, consulting assignments, early project works, and other tasks that contribute to the new nuclear team's'overall goals.
- Accountable for all aspects of one or more projects within the mandate.
Project Planning, Scope Definition & Execution:
- Responsible for developing project scope, WBS, deliverables and project estimates in compliance with governing contract documents, quality requirements, and any additional customer requirements.
- Develop and implement detailed project execution plans and monitor execution through comprehensive reporting to clients and senior management.
Contract, Commercial & Supply Chain Management:
- Responsible for contract development and negotiations, including scope and change control, requirements management, subcontractor and supplier management, and governance of flow‑down requirements from the parent contract to subs and vendors.
- Ensure project procurement and subcontract management - including subcontractor and supplier oversight, invoicing, accruals, and supply chain strategies—ensuring alignment with risk management, quality, schedule, budget, and overall performance standards commensurate with the project and customer requirements.
Cost, Schedule, Project Controls & Performance Reporting:
- Responsible for applying appropriate key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor project health and performance and to establish rigorous reporting protocols that meet all requirements of the contract, corporate standards and project-specific oversight as established by senior management or customer.
- Apply project controls methodologies related to planning and scheduling, baseline management, cost control, budgeting, cashflow, invoicing, cost and revenue forecasting, and resource management.
Risk Management:
- Perform rigorous risk analysis in accordance with corporate standards and industry best practices, including Monte Carlo methodology and contingency draw‑down curves.
People Leadership & Resource Management:
- Make effective decisions and/or recommendations with respect to resourcing requirements on the project.
- Responsible for approving hours of work (e.g., timesheets, overtime, vacation) in accordance with company policies, project policies, and applicable collective agreements.
Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance:
- Where applicable, the PM is responsible and accountable for all aspects of nuclear and industrial safety, including adherence to corporate and customer safety programs, development and enforcement of necessary training and requirements, adherence to corrective action programs and enforcement of performance standards for all the above.
- Ensure all project activities are performed in accordance with corporate standards for ethical compliance, cyber‑security, import-export regulations, intellectual property protection, and security clearance protocols.
Proposal Development & Business Support:
- Support the proposal process by driving the proposal development as per submission deadlines and internal review governance processes.
Financial & Business Responsibility:
- Project‑level profit and loss (P&L) responsibility.
About You:
Education & Professional Credentials:
- BSc in Engineering or equivalent is an asset.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is considered an asset.
Project & Industry Experience:
- 7+ years experience supporting construction, manufacturing, or engineering design/services projects.
- New Build engineering and construction project experience is a considerable asset.
- Front End Engineering Design (FEED) experience is a considerable asset.
- Experience on international projects is an asset.
Project Delivery & Controls:
- Understanding of project delivery methodologies, including earned value, critical path scheduling, prime contract and subcontract management, procurement and supply chain methodology, construction work packaging, and associated inspection and test plans.
- Experience managing complex, interdependent Primavera P6 project schedules is an asset.
- Understanding of large engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) work, including subcontracts and prime contract management.
Leadership & People Management:
- 3+ years' experience leading individuals and teams is an asset.
- Servant leader with the ability to inspire teams to work collaboratively toward common goals.
- Lead by example and set high standards for Health & Safety and Nuclear Safety Culture.
