Job Summary
The Internal Control Assistant (Summer Student) works closely with the Director of Internal Control (Finance) in the monitoring of internal controls through quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
Key Accountabilities
Quantitative and qualitative data analysis
- Leverage the organization’s data assets and provide in-depth data analysis to help build evidence base to enhance strategic decision-making for the finance department.
- Apply data tools (such as MS Excel) to collect, cleanse, and present data from accounting system for analysis for internal control assessment and implementatin of mitigating measures.
- Perform substantive review/testing over internal controls using data tools under the supervision of Director of Internal Control (Finance) to confirm effectiveness of internal controls.
- Support in the documentation of risks and controls of key internal controls for financial processes to ensure their accuracy and completeness.
- Support in the research of best practices to mitigate risks within financial processes in support of the enhancement of existing internal controls within the finance department.
Preparation and presentation of findings
- Assist with the development of presentation to mission partners on findings through quantitative and qualitative analysis with the objective to improve internal control awareness, build support for change, and/or highlight weaknesses to existing procedures.
- Assist members of the finance department in operational activities and/or ad hoc projects as necessary as it relates to accounting and/or financial operations.
Education and Experience Qualifications
- Working towards completion of college diploma or university degree in Commerce, Business Administration from an accredited program (minimum 2 years completion required).
- An acceptable combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.
- Previous experience in an accounting/finance environment would be an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in exploring, extracting, analyzing, and presenting data using MS Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, VBA coding, etc.). Familiarity with Power BI, SQL and Python is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Can work independently and as part of a larger team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to adapt and work in an ever-changing environment.
To be eligible, the candidate must:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period and must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (please see CSJ website for further details).
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $44,535.40 to $55,673.80 with a maximum of $66,812.20.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
